Some Recent Thoughts
====================

I has been somewhat busy recently,  and also not much lucky. Thus there
was little new on my Gopher.

I'm still somewhat exhausted and still a lot of work have to be done.

Gopher 2.0
----------

To be  honest, I don't think  that there is  a big chance for  some new
version of  Gopher protocol. In  my opinion  the main advantage  of the
gopher:// is  in its simplicity. It  can be accessed from  old and long
abandoned computer platforms. I think  that there is little chance that
someone will want to write and  maintain Gopher 2.0 clients for ancient
UNIX workstations or  some (even not so) ancient PDA,  for example. But
some people to  use these devices to read articles  via Gopher. And all
these computers might be out of game just because the new protocol will
use UTF-8 or some sort of encryption.

I  also think  that  there is  little  space to  develop  a new  simple
protocol. I may worth to try to do it, though. But it cannot be "Gopher
2.0" but something else. I don't know how much users will such protocol
can share with the current Gopher users.

Phone
-----

I have  tried several times to  go to different meetings  and workshops
without  my  phone.  Surprisingly,  there  was  no  problem.  The  only
difference was  that nobody  was able to  disturb me so  I was  able to
concentrate. And all  "urgent" and "important" problems  have been able
to be postponed to time when I was back in my office.

Blackbird
---------

No  progress  so  far.  I  even  e-mailed  a  polite  question  to  the
[email protected]  (I  just politely  asked  if  the shipping  can  be
expected in  June) but no reaction.  Maybe all Raptor staff  is busy in
packaging and sending of these Blackbirds? It seems to be a bit strange
because my order is just 30 numbers  after the Cameron's one and he was
already able to write a review of his delivered system. I hope that the
only issue is that Raptor  people will prepare the international orders
after  the domestic  ones.  But  still, no  reaction  to  an e-mail  is
strange...

Palm/PDA
--------

I still use my Palm on daily basic.  Still use the Palm III line as I'm
not compatible with  newer ones. But this week I  actually have no time
event to read news in Plucker.
