Failures for Saturday
=====================

I just  wanted to  try to re-install  my SGI Indigo2  [1]. Last  time I
finished the  installation procedure  with a  success but  the computer
refused to boot. As it can be  caused by old IRIX version, I decided to
install the  IRIX 6.5.22 (the  last version  for the old  systems). But
this time it even refused to power up  - I hear the start sound but the
indicator  remains to  be  orange (no  green light).  I  even tried  to
connect a serial console (well, a Palm III with the PTelnet) and saw no
message on the console.

The keyboard and mouse are OK (they  work with my SGI Octane) and there
is no external SCSI so I suspected the 13W3-VGA adapter. So I connected
my SGI Indigo  (the old system [2],  not "2", but the  version with the
R4000 CPU).  It behaves  in the  same manner  orange light  and nothing
more). On the indigo the problem  might be the dead PRAM battery. There
was a battery mod done (a socked  for CR1620 or something like this was
added) so I will try to use a new battery when I buy one).

The screen is  not the cause, by  the way: I have started  the SGI Indy
and it works here (I'm writing on this device now).
