Text from Zaurus to Palm by IR
==============================

It is well-known that one can write  a text on Palm (for example in the
default MemoPad)  and send it ("beam"  in) to the SHARP  Zaurus via IR.
The text is  saved as a normal  text file on the Zaurus  drive. This is
obvious and comfortable and I have been  doing this for ages (I use the
CACKO ROM on all my Zauri except the SL-6000N where is the original ROM
- but they are compatible).

The direction Palm->Zaurus is convenient as one usually makes a note on
the Palm and  then sent it t  a bigger computer with  the real keyboard
(thus to the Zaurus) for further use.

It might seen strange but I never  needed the reverse way. I never sent
the text from the Zaurus to the Palm.

But yesterday  I wrote one  tech hate post (the  "Batteries, batteries"
text) on  my Zaurus SL-C3200  and wanted  to get it  to my SGI  O2. The
usual way  is to  put the  text on  a SD  card, insert  the card  to an
reader, connect the reader to my ODROID (and ARM desktop) and then sent
the text to the right place (or to the O2 via FTP or directly to my SDF
directory  on  the  SDF  server).  Or I  can  connect  the  Zaurus  via
ethernet-over-usb and do  the same without need of the  card reader. In
theory it is easier, in practice this is not so easy and reliable as it
was ten years back because of changes in Linux subsystems.

Communication between  an old  Palm and  the SGI O2  of similar  age is
easier:  the Palm  is connected  to O2's  serial port  and the  HotSync
protocol is  slow but reliable.  I only  need to start  proper software
(pilot-memos from the  pilot-link package or the  GUI-based JPilot) and
press one hardware button. But the data are on the Zaurus drive and not
in the Palm's memory.

Thus I have  had to find how to  do it. First I tried  the default Text
Editor as it can take "Notes"  (and traditional text files, too). There
is no "Beam" option  as if was in the Calendar and  the ToDo apps here.
So I tried the build-in file  manager (this appears as one of "screens"
accessible by the  "Home" hardware button). And there is  a menu option
"Send File" which allows to sent files via IR beaming. And I works as I
need: the sent TEXT  file appears on the Palm side as  a "memo" for the
MemoPad. This is super easy and excellent!
