PalmPilot Personal updates
==========================

I have decided to replace my work Palm IIIxe with an upgraded PalmPilot
Personal. Why? Because I use IIIxe outdoors and such use always include
risk of  data loss.  At work  it usually serves  as a  password storage
device  and  as  a  notetaking  tool  so there  is  not  need  for  the
expandability and the huge RAM (8 MB) of the IIIxe.

The PalmPilot is already upgraded to the Palm III level (via the add-on
card with 2 MB  of RAM, with a flash loaded with the  OS 3 and with the
infra-red sensor for communication). The  update card was taken from my
recently obtained Pilot 5000 and it is already flashed with the Palm OS
3.3 (which is most probably the newest OS which it can use).

So it has been prepared for installation of some software tools:
* the Keyring password storage
* the EasyCalc (the "small" English version to save the RAM) [1]
* the Czech language fonts and input method (the gnu-czech 0.71)

I was surprised that the gnu-czech not only supports both OS 2.0 and OS
3.0 (and it  also works on the  OS 4.0 - my IIIx  runs this combination
for years  without single  issue) but  that it  actually works  on such
extensively modified machine.

I  will also  consider the  DiddleBug [2]  installation later  (I'm not
quite sure if it is really necessary no this device).

So my Palm IIIxe  is now free for taking of  picture and for geocaching
(well, if only I will be able to find a working GPS which is compatible
with the Palm III line...)!
