Last week I traveled by train (from Ostrava to Prague and back). It was my
first train trip after more than half of year, I think. One way takes about
3 hours so I decided to take a computer with me to be able to work in the
train. I decided to use as small bag as possible (I only had a small bag
with a phone, a GPD Pocket computer, with few cables and the A6 notepad) so
I didn't carry anything interesting with me (no Palm nor Psion).
So I used only these devices:
* Pebble Smartwatch:
It is possible to sync their TimeLine thing (a list of calendar events) with
Ubuntu Touch Calendar. So I put all needed details about the journey to the
calendar (including my seat number) and synced the devices. It was nice to
have all these information easily available without need to hold a mobile
phone during train boarding. By the way, I usually connecting the watch to
the phone once a day just to sync the things.
* Ubuntu phone
I still use my BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition. It's a low end phone today
but it has everything that I need. I only used it to sent SMS to my wife to
inform her when I will be at home...
* GPD Pocket
I still use this little guy as my main portable email/note taking/office
computer (it has 7" screen and it weights about 0.5 kg). This device can be
charged in the train (it was the Czech SC Pendolino) so there was no need to
utilize it's great battery life. On the workshop (where was no way to charge
it) if was on for 3 hours (with the screen and the WiFi connection still on)
and there was still more than 75% of battery power. I also find that I can
write with my normal typing speed on this device (the size of keys is
identical with normal keyboard only few keys are misplaced - unfortunately
they are some Czech-specific symbols - but after 8 hours of continuous
typing I'm pretty sure where they are).
And that's all. Initially I thought that I should carry also my Ben NanoNote
(as a music player) but it is possible to use the phone in this role (at
least in the train which is noisy).
