OpenMoko reading
================

A nice memories of one of the OpenMoko members [1]. Did you have the Neo1976 or
the Freerunner or even theGTA04 phone? (I did, and I still have a damaged GTA04
machine at home).

For me there were 2 main issues:

- the hardware problems which affected the battery life (the latest Freerunner
runs have fixed all of them but I never got the late one so my Freerunner was
able to barely survive 2 days of use)
- pen-based touchscreen (without the possibility to attach the pen to the
 device!)

The device itself was rather nice - small, round, with many features (GPS,
Bluetooth,...). The 2.5" audio jack was a minor issue but adapters worked well.
But text input was problematic (the small and pressure-sensitive screen and
prevented the use of thumb typing so the stylus was necessary for anything
serious).

The software environment was unstable, things were continuously changing but
at least it allowed to run (less or more unmodified) Gtk+ apps which was very
useful for me. But I replaced it by the Ben NanoNote in the role of pocket
computer and some time after that I also got a different phone with better
battery life...
