CalculiX on IRIX
================

I have decided to try the CalculiX software. By its desciption it is much more
powerfull than my own humble uFEM but this one is ever less user-friendly.
There is an older version available for the IRIX 6.5 but the current version
isn't. Thus it was necessary to complile it. I didn't expected that it will be
easy and I was right:

* There are two main external libraries (a linear equation solver and
 an eigensolver). They are old as a hell and they require FORTRAN compiler
 (FORTRAN77 is fortunately enough). There were some needs to fix Makefiles but
 ingeneral this task was easy. the GUI (cgx) uses GLUT. The bundled GLUT
 version doesn't compile on the IRIX but a pre-installed one can be used.
 There were some needs to change the Makefile and some headers to fix a few
 definitions. The compilation took some 3 hours on the SGI O2.

* It requires C++ compiler so under IRIX 5.3 you are probably out of
 luck (6.5 is OK).

* The solver is a tougher nut. Some fiddling with
 Makefiles was necessary but after about 4 hours it failed on some errors (I
 had to stop here due to lack of time, I will try to investigate it later).

Well, I still can use the old 1.7 version of Calculix [2].
