Augmented Reality
=================

I'm still not OK and I'm still unable to do anything usefull. So I'm trying to
make the ARToolKit [1] work on my SGI O2 (OK, there is a new WWW [2] but the
old one has link to download a version that has to work with SGIs - I think
that it is the same software: at least uses the same approach the same name).
Well, doing augmented reality with an old SGI is a bit oldschool (or simply
crazy) but why not?

Compiling on the IRIX 6.5 is relatively easy: there are some errors (mainly
-glut instead of -lglut in Makefiles and mistypes like CFLAG instead of
CFLAGS).

At the moment it is in the phase of camera calibrating (it is a bit slow but it
may be because of bad light conditions at the moment: I should repeat this
procedure in daylight). I'm also not sure if teh O2Cam is the best camera
hardware possible but they say that the software was ested exactly with such
camera. SO I hope that it would be enough.

To be honest, it's many times better than the early camera which was shipped
with SGI Indy machines: both have the same resolution but image quality is much
better on the O2 one (especially if the light conditions are not perfect).

During the calibration procedure I reviewed my wallpapers and I have found a
name of one now very important person on my wallpaper that I have used for a
long time. I got a nice three-screen wallpaper from the (now defunct)
mandolux.org and on the right one is this that name. My screen had it near its
center. You can find it at [3], and the interesting part is the right 1/3. Do
you see that name, too? ;-)
