Today the doctoral colloquium of our lab ended. Unfortunately, there
was little discussion, but in the end, four students stayed online to
talk about different things not related to science. That was great
since I learnt something new about university life and these
particular guys. One of them came from Greece and is called Thanos.
In Russia, we also have people named Athanasios (with a different
ending, Афанасий), but it's shortened to Афоня. Афоня usually
associates with a soviet film about a village tractorist-drunkard. I
met only one person with such a name before, and he prefered to call
himself Oleg, finding Афоня sounding too silly.
