Apart from a cycle renting service with automatic station working
with your local public transport card, there is an additional service
exclusively for electric-aided bicycles in Nice. There are no
stations, but one can lock your bike on any parking reserved for
cyclists. For starting and ending a rent, one needs a phone with a
dedicated application installed. You also have to turn on location
and BlueTooth. There are also several one-way 'pistes cyclables' in
the city centre going along the seashore. The problem with them is
that they start from nowhere and end abruptly. Usually, this happens
with a sign and a motorway in front of you. After reaching a sudden
end of a one-way track, you have no choice, but loose several minutes
finding a back route or parking. Leaving a cycle outside dedicated
parking leads to 50 euros fine. So I spent a little more than 30 free
minutes to find where to park and end the rent which resulting in an
unexpected surplus fee of an euro and a half. Not much but my initial
idea was to use it for free since I've got such an option with my
student card.
