# [2020.03.08] Gender Equality by 2030

[United Nations](www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day) calls for
equality. It's particularly important, in my opinion, since in Russia
the government does all to discredit this day. A large billboard near
my place reads: March 8 --- a holiday of spring! Orly? Similarly,
they officially call the May 1 'The Day of Spring and Labour', and
spring is again on the first place. Yes, spring is important, as well
as autumn and summer, not to mention winter, of course. I live not
far from a large flower market, and they have a thirsty work around
the International Women's Day. Nobody gives flowers to men in Russia.
We bring flowers only to women, graves, and churches. This day for a
Russian woman is not a day about being equal to a man, not about
fighting and uniting with other women. It's about waiting to be told
that she is only a woman, like millions of others, each separate and
uniquely belonging to her man. Not a particularly pleasant
perspective, I guess. At least UN remembers about the roots of this
celebration:)
