Tibet                                                    2005-12-16

There are still so many places I dream of going to. Lhasa is
definitely one of them. I would like to go to Lhasa, nay I will go
to Lhasa one day to dig the Tibetan people that Heinrich Harrer
wrote about so dearly. Lhasa would be like the Holy Grail to me,
the Forbidden City as it was once known; now whorehouses are packed
under the watchful view of the Potala, the Dalai Lama's winter
residence. Unfortunately we have the Chinese to thank for this
feature. Well, not quite. The U.N. is also responsible, the U.N.
and the rest of the international community. They watched resting
back in their chairs when China invaded Tibet and took over the
country claiming it as a province. The U.N. had a problem when
Saddam Hussein did the same with Kuwait, why? Over 2 million
Tibetans have died in their struggle for a care-free life of their
own in their own country, but I guess that the international
community just didn't -and doesn't- give a shit. The international
community seems to accept the annexation of Tibet into China, why?
Because the Tibetans were happy in their own country, because they
hardly let foreigners in, because they don't have any oil to
export, just yak-dung?

The Dalai Lama has fled to Dharamsala in north-eastern India; he
has gained enormous respect throughout the world both as a person
and for his ongoing struggle for his cause, freedom for Tibet.
Unfortunately nothing structural has come out of this yet, Tibet is
still occupied and the international community still hasn't done
much to change that fact. What a shame.
