## 53 I made the Inktober2024

What's this ? Just a challenge with one word that you must draw each day with ink. I had tried to do this once with a single drawing for every words but it wasn't a good idea. This time, I had the idea to do it in my bullet journal (see 2024/18). It's a small A6 Notebook but it's easy to take time to do it because it's quite always with me. With 2 drawings per page, it's a A7 Inktober, ha ha. The theme of this year was OK for me because it was around trek, hiking, etc.

But when I started to draw the first word, backpack, I was like in front of a wall. OK, i can draw a backpack but for what ? I have to tell a story behind that. And my first idea was to look into the backpack to see what is inside. I don't know how I had the idea to draw a little monster inside, an ET monster with eyes on antennae and a hairy-looking body. And what happens when you put the hand inside ?.… you lose a finger. With the first drawing, I had the idea for the whole series and a kind of «Hero» with this little monster. But I had one problem : To make it coherent and lively. With 2 drawings per page, it was quite easy to look at what is after or before. But the words were not especially in the right order to tell my story. For example, in the second challenge, Discover, I drew a telescope first...I don't know why but it was logical to think to a planet with an ET. And after I drew the monster and it was maybe a mistake. With the first drawings, I made my hero a serial killer ! It was the story's
common thread.

Now, I had to kill something or someone on each drawing, ah ah. But I didn't want to frighten everybody and so, there was only small parts of the corpse like hadns, fingers, … and blood of course. It was funny to draw it and I made it in two parts. I started drawing again this year after one or two years off. I have no style, I'm lazy for that but I make it just for fun, not to become a professional drawer. It's a leisure. I made a fist draft with a pencil and after that I made a second, more precise drawing directly with a pen. I know it's not the right way to do it and I should have done a better draft, sometimes. But I like chance, the chance to discover something while drawing. I should have drawn more details sometimes. But I'm happy with that challenge because I made it to the end. Ok, it was not «live» with one drawing per day, because I knew I won't have time to do that in October. So I made it in September with sometimes 2 or 3 drawings per day.

It was interesting and inspiring to do it and I will perhaps do it the next year with a better quality, and a bigger size. I was very happy to see the results in so many different styles. There are amateurs like me, beginners, and professionals. Some people were talking about how drawing can be hard to live with. They talked about their family and the workload. When a leisure or an art is becoming a work, it's sometimes difficult to keep time for us. When I was young, I dreamed to become a professional car designer but I changed my mind and I'm pretty sure I won't have been good in that because I have faults: a lack of discipline and a limited imagination to be really interesting. When I was trying to imagine new models for a brand, it was often inspired by something real, not something new, original. I know that to copy is the first path to become an artist but I was just a somewhat gifted amateur draughtsman with no discipline. A friend of mine in high-school tried to become a comics drawer... He made it,
but not for comics and I'm pretty sure that he still wants to do a comic book. It's more difficult than this little challenge. But it could have been a base for that.
