Title: Copacetic Music Hour Preview, 1/20/23: Africa and Latin America: call
and response
Another week has passed, which means it's time for another episode of the
copacetic music hour! This week is a special treat for you all beloved
listeners. Instead of featuring just one artist this week, we will instead
explore a theme - cross pollination between African (particularly central and
west African) and Latin American musical cultures. We'll hear a classic hit
from a multi-Grammy Award winning Latin artist and find its shocking source not
in the Caribbean but in the Congo, the heart of the African continent. In
addition, we'll listen to greats like the Cuban Monguito perform duets with
artists like Laba Sosseh of the Gambia. We'll listen to a range of artists on
leading edge of this cultural convalesence, including Israel Lopez "Cachao",
Ricardo Lemvo, Manu Dibango, and Joe Arroyo.
