Title: Copacetic Music Hour Preview, 12/2/22
It's important to start by writing that my phlog not only features biking and
computers but also music, particularly my weekly music show on Friday and
Saturday nights (Friday 9 pm EST/Saturday 0200 UTC and Saturday 7 pm EST/Sunday
0000 UTC). This show is called the copacetic music hour and I've hosted it for
77 episodes on anonradio and now tilderadio. Since moving completely to
tilderadio, I've kept archives on my home website at
http://molleraj.homeplex.org:8080. The focus of the show is Latin music,
particularly from the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil, and Peru. We've listened to
everyone from Joe Arroyo to La Maldita Vecindad.

This week's featured artist is the late beloved salsero and merenguero of the
Dominican Republic, Johnny Ventura. Ventura sadly passed away from a heart
attack in the summer of 2021. His musical career spanned some six decades,
beginning with winning a TV music show contest in the mid-1950s. His music was
loved locally and internationally, with him compared to Elvis Presley and
winning the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Outside of music,
he was heavily involved in Dominican politics, elected as deputy to the
National Congress (1982-1986), vice mayor of capital city Santo Domingo
(1994-1998), and mayor of Santo Domingo (1998-2002), all for the center-left
PRD.

Tomorrow night, as always, we will enjoy a sampling of Johnny's hits alongside
a fireside IRC chat at tilde.chat channel tilderadio (#tilderadio). Join us!
