So... The main battery on my Dell Latitude E6430, but the slice battery still
works, so it's still usable. I can replace that main battery when I get the
chance, but for now... Debian 11 is working. It's still getting a battery life
of around 4-7 hours on just the slice battery, and as high as 11 hours, so I'm
happy with that. At 1600x900, with no nVidia GPU active without the driver,
I'm running Trinity on this thing, and I'm happy with that as well. I could
fix that by moving to Debian unstable/sid, but I don't feel like working on
that quite yet. Maybe later.
It's been too long since I seriously had a proper KDE3 daily driver, so it's
taking some time to get used to it. There's plenty of documentation for me to
look through, and I suddenly want to pour through some old Linux magazines
and e-zines from the KDE3 era for the heck of it.
Right now, I'm transferring as much of my data as I can from my MacBook and
onto this laptop. Never realized just how much data I pidgeonholed away on my
main work device. This is going to take a while, but once it's done, I'll have
everything I need to get back to work...maybe. We'll see on that front.
I've been wanting to get back into sustainable computing and permacomputing
ideas, and maybe now I can actually get into that headspace a bit by getting
back to running a Linux distro again, even if I'm not the biggest of going
back to a community where I felt abused. Things have thankfully changed, so
maybe I can avoid that part of the hackerspace, even if just a bit, by staying
away from social media.
