I'm sitting on my futon, feet propped up with my laptop in my lap, watching
NCommander install Windows 98 from floppies on a machine that has no reason to
run Windows 98. The partner I live with is in his room, relaxing with some PC
gaming, my uncles are in the dining room relaxing with some friendly poker,
and my aunt is napping on the love seat in the entry room. It's definitely
Christmas.

I feel at least somewhat accomplished, as I got snownews compiled and running
on this machine, though SSL issues still need to be fixed. I also got network
connection in SheepShaver for my MacOS 9 install, which took some time to work
out. Was going to try and get bitlbee-matrix working, but found it that it's no
longer being maintained, pushing for libpurple and purple-matrix instead, so I
dropped that project.

Actually, Matrix is kinda...meh for me. I know there are plenty of third
party clients, but they're often so far behind feature-wise that it's not worth
trying to use them. But the web client doesn't work for legacy systems, so it's
not really my thing. And too many people just give the answer of "buy new shit,
n00b" when you point it out. You know, kinda like how some members of the
golang and rustlang communities tend to give the middle finger to members of
the vintage computing communities. Gemini as well, given what I've seen on the
newsgroup. I have nothing against Matrix, just... I'd rather have XMPP and IRC
over Matrix, personally.

That said, I'm very thankful for both the open source communities, and the
vintage computing communities, for all of their efforts in making software for
everyone. I wish I could support them more, but being a "starving" writer kinda
makes that difficult at the moment.

Have a happy holiday, no matter what you celebrate.
