BACKSTORY
Cord had a difficult life. Raised by parents who expected too much of
him, he grew stronger than a Dwarf his size should have. Yet he was
never able to satisfy his parents. He was all but cast aside.
He found solice in helping others. The appreciation given wasn't a
perfect substitute for the lack of praise from his family, but it was
the best he could find. This eventually turned into not just helping
others when asked but also seeking out those in need and, eventually,
seeking out those who harm others before they were able to do so. Some
called it Justice, others called it a Crusade. To Cord, it was solace.
Over time, he became tired with his endless pursuit and decided to see
more of the world, reasoning that there are people to be helped
everywhere and that experience and knowledge are paramount to
victory. Unfortunately, he was not the smartest Dwarf, relying more on
brute force for victory, but even he was able to see the advantages of
branching out and learning more of the world, what bits of it he could
understand, anyway.
Now, Cord travels, sometimes with others, other times alone. He
doesn't remember everything he sees and learns, but his experiences
leave lasting effects on him that, on some level, influence his
actions everafter.
Not all of what Cord sees leaves him better for the experience,
however. There are things in the world which he detests or downright
fears. Most notable is a lack of love for some of the magical
arts. Since helping others is in his nature, he has come to terms with
healing magic. However, other magics, especially control over others,
leaves Cord uncomfortable, at best, or even fearfully sick, at
worst. The exact reasons for this he keeps to himself.
