<title>What Does the New Testament Mean By “The Commandments”?</title>

Some feel that when, “the commandments” are mentioned in the New
Testament books—the Apostolic Writings—that it is the Ten
Commandments in particular to which it refers. However, an
explicitly named thing called, “The Ten Commandments,” is never
mentioned anywhere in the Hebrew Scriptures, nor in the Apostolic
Writings. It turns out that a tight focus on, “The Ten
Commandments,” to the exclusion of the rest of the Law, is an
idiosyncracy not based on biblical precedent. This focus may
indicate a lack of full appreciation for what the ten commandments
really are, which in turn can be attributed in a cause-and-effect
manner, to a general, widespread rejection and neglect of Torah.

Because the Almighty to such an extent loved the world that he
gave his only kindred son, that anyone holding faithful to him may
not perish, but may have life everlasting.

N.B. The 'may' and 'may not' are in the subjunctive mood, and not
in the indicative mood. In English, it is possible to misread
these words in the indicative, meaning that holding faithful only
gives a possibility of everlasting life, instead of the certainty.
In the correct reading (subjunctive mood), the words mean that
holding faithful enables the outcome of not perishing and
receiving everlasting life, and that this outcome is only
   depending on one's faithfulness.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one

Not all Christians observe the Sabbath, despite it being prominent

The cover image on this booklet shows a representation of the Ten
Commandments, with the Fourth Commandment (the Sabbath one)
