APPEARANCE
Paidoboron is a youth tall for his age, but not extremely so for his
people. The harsh upbringing of even the high born among the Stone
people has left him with dense muscles strung on a lanky frame. His
eyes are pale blue-grey under a heavy brow. He tends to wear his
greasy blonde shoulder-length hair plaited in back. His face sprouts a
stubbly full beard and mustache.
At home he clothes himself mainly in furs to block the icy wind that
blows year-round from the northern sea, but newly come to more
southern climes he has doffed most of his clothing in favor of his
shiny new ring mail and leather harness to hold his weapon collection.
BACKGROUND
Paidoboron is a prince from the Kingdom of Stone, a primitive
sea-faring nation of the remote bleak and wind-beaten northern
coast. His people subsist primarily on fishing, whaling, and the
hunting of sea monsters with trade in ivory and sea monster bone their
main source of cash money. The harpoon is their traditional weapon,
with which the men train to deadly proficiency out of necessity.
Unsatisfied with the price offered by itinerant merchants for the
season's take of ivory and bone, Paidoboron's father sent his son and
a small party of warriors with the season's harvest loaded onto a
longboat to seek a better price in one of the southern market
cities. However, once the Stone longboat what out of sight of its
home port, the "merchants", sore at losing the season's trade,
attacked, thinking they could take by force what the simple men of
Stone wouldn't trade. Underestimating the men of Stone was the last
mistake the "merchants" would make.
After a fierce battle on the decks of the two ships, the men of Stone
slew their attackers and cast their remains into the sea as a
sacrifice to the sea gods. They then found themselves in possession
of both their own vessel and that of the merchant/pirates. Paidoboron
and the other Stone men divided both the booty from the pirate ship
and once they reached port the proceeds from the sale of their ivory
and sea monster bone, which explains his bulging purse as he swaggers
about exploring the strange city.
Metal being hard to come by in the north, the weapon monger's and
armorer's goods caught Paidoboron's eye and took a good portion of
his earnings.
Paidoboron, like most of his people, tends to be superstitious and
credulous of claims of supernatural power. The Stone people believe
that earthly conflicts are manifestations of conflicts between
supernatural powers, so Paidoboron collects religious symbols of both
vanquished foes and of deities who may be able to aid him.
