ACME

or: A hymn on the Plan 9 text editor

I typed my PhD thesis mostly in acme (from plan9port, with the
acme2k patches), running on a linux box. It doesn't work over VNC
for some reason I couldn't figure out, so on the days where I worked
from home and not the office I used Kate instead, which is also a
pretty good editor. Still, I think acme was what I typed the most
in, and let me tell you, it was amazing.

I learn new things about this piece of software pretty much every
time I use it. I find it intuitive and feature rich, albeit lacking
everything I neither want nor need. And that's exactly why I love
it. It has everything, it's blazingly fast and responsive, it walks
a strict no-bullsh*t line and just does the job: editing text.

One of my favourite features (next to the execute-command-on-middle-click)
is the Zerox feature which i use in coding a lot.

Acme is simply amazing. So amazing it deserves a Haiku:

A text editor.
Everything I want to do,
just a click away.
