Read the news that IBM was basically closing up shop for AIX
development in the US and moving it all to India.

What that basically translates to is that AIX is officially in
maintanence mode.

I mentioned that my first job out of college was basically working
on an AIX system so I have to say that I'm a little bit saddened
by this news. Even in the mid-2000's AIX was pretty much obsolete
at the user level that I dealt with but no matter what, it was
pretty gosh darn reliable.

Just another reminder how quickly time passes. When I started to
work on AIX in 2004, HP-UX and Solaris were still around...although
not exactly bursting with life.

Now the last of the commercial UNIX variants has packed its bags
for retirement. Pour one out.
