Back from my vacation in California. I visited the
very unique Joshua Tree National Park and did some
hiking there. I'm not sure where I would rank that
park as a place to visit. On one hand, the Joshua
trees themselves are very unique and the geology
of the park itself is also very unique. But it
is hellishly hot in the summer and the park has
multiple signs warning people not to be out in the
sun during the hours of 11AM to 6PM...which is most
of the day.

While sitting and admiring the desert sunset I
had a chance to read the conclusion to f6k's offline
computing series. In his phlog from the 26th he
mentions a plethora of linux tools that is worth
the perusal. Some I knew about and some I didn't.

In particular, the section on podcast downloading
was pretty new to me. I'd never heard of podboat
and I'm eager to try it out. My current podcast
setup is just to extract the audio from podcasts
that are posted on youtube and use my existing
youtube downloading infrastructure. That works
great for podcasts that also hos their content
on youtube...but there are a few that I regularly
listen to that don't crosspost to youtube. I've
had to listen to those via my iphone but it would
be nice to queue them up on my laptop.

in mass media news, House of Dragon has been
blowing up with all of my friends. I've never
watched the original Game of Thrones series and
to be honest, I'm not much of a fantasy genre
fan anyways. But I've queued up the first episode
for watching later and I guess I'll see if it is
any good.
