Down here. I consider myself a rather "progressive" and openminded person,
but when it comes to a lot of recent technological developments, I start
getting really crazy conservative thoughts. Since I'm not really "into"
regulating other peoples' behavior any more than absolutely necessary, the
first thing that comes to mind is "gotta move to the middle of nowhere and
ditch this insanity."
I have been thinking about it a lot, and I am currently thinking that I
want to ground my further studies of technology in 80's and 90's uh, I
guess, history. Not just history of events but the interplay between the
development of technology and the development of ideas about technology
and criticism. I find myself looking back a lot these days to the early
years of computer networking, when the whole deal was less (obviously)
infused with hypercapitalism.
This makes me sound like an old man but since things move so fast in my
areas of interest it makes sense that I would.. I look back to find a
sense of hope and purpose that I can't seem to find in present day
developments. It's also easier to see the forces at play in the past
because of various cliches I won't repeat here (20-20)

It is important to distinguish between my current state and my usual
morbid tendencies. Two shifts have taken place that have changed my
interests drastically. Let me first say that I have no intentions to scrap
the research / theory I did during college, because what I am currently
thinking of grows from that.
