2019-01-17 Something Different

******
I'm trying something a little new for me. What follows is a block of
posts I made to Evernote with datetimestamps. I'm finding it a bit
easier to write these posts with Evernote, as I usuallu have it
running either in my browser or on my phone. When I have a spare
moment and I have a thought I'd like to capture, I jot it down in
Evernote, along with the date and time of the writing. Hoepfully,
readers won't find this style too jarring as it really helps me
actually write *something* by removing some of the barriers
(e.g. uploading every post to my phlog, being in front of my laptop,
etc.).

Today was definitely productive but exhausting. School started for the
kids today too so we're of course knee deep in homework for both of
them. On a positive note, we've implemented a checklist for each of
them outlining the chores they need to complete each morning and each
evening. It is cutting down on the amount of nagging we're doing to
get regular stuff done around the house.

I'm beat. I should try to go to bed early tonight. I should but I also
feel like I get no time to myself. Sleep or free time?

I'm very busy today but I'm getting a lot done. I'm almost finished
with a big chunk of my testing. Tomorrow, I should be able to complete
this chunk and start on the final block of functionality we need to
test. I'm also on-call which just adds to my full schedule.

Tonight, I have the first session of Beavers for the year. I feel like
I should have prepared more but I'm not sure what I should have done.

I am finally well enough today to go for a run. I was getting into a
really good habit before Christmas and was running four to five times
a week. Then, I got a stomach bug and a cold over Christmas and I had
to stop. Today, I managed 6.26 km in 45 minutes which is a bit off my
previous best of 6.50 km in 46 minutes.

Exhausted but I want some time to myself, dammit. My spouse went out
with her colleagues which is completely fair. However, I needed to get
both of my kids home from school and then get out to the swimming pool
for a lesson for the younger one. No one was feeling particularly
cooperative and I was out of spoons. I shouted at the kids when I
shouldn't have. On top of this, I was on-call this evening and today
was far too busy. I just couldn't cope. I'm very unhappy with my
parenting tonight. I'm writing this and listening to a bit of
electronic lounge music. Trying to unwind.

I'm at a my child's soccer skills program at a local college sports
facility. We're in a big pressurized dome. This college has a great
sports program for children and our kids have done both skating
lessons and soccer lessons here. My kid is super excited to be
here. He's been talking about it all week. I love that he's so
passionate about it.

Almost done with work. I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't managed
to get a Blog post done. Of course, I haven't uploaded this phlog post
collection either. I guess I should count the fact that I am still
writing here on Evernote as a partial victory. Things have been so
busy at work and at home that there hasn't been much time leftover for
extra-curricular pursuits. On the weekend, I reorganized the office. I
moved the large bookshelves we have as per the suggestions I got from
my spouse. The result is a much more open space. Now, all we need is a
cozy rug on the floor and some more shelving for the kids to store
their books and toys.

Time to go!

I really need to get this thing posted. It's been good adding thoughts
to this journal but I should it up on my phlog. It's time.
