2018-11-24 Bonus Work and Character Questionnaires

In an interesting development, an old friend of mine had to fire his
main Saturday employee and called me to ask if I could cover the
shifts until he finds a new person. On one hand, it means working 6
days a week. On the other, it's extra income for the holidays! It's
usually not too busy so I might have time to write here a bit. Of
course, today it was a madhouse.

I have been avidly watching "DungeonCraft" on You Tube
(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD6ERRdXrF2IZ0R888G8PQg/videos). He
is full of creative and effective ideas to streamline game play for the
fantasy role-playing game of your choice. Last night, I watched
"DungeonCraft #2: How to Create Characters"
(https://youtu.be/s7Ig6qPS0ZM) and it gave me one of the most succinct
questionnaires to create a character background I've seen:

1. What does my character fear?
2. What does my character hate?
3. Who or what does my character love the most?

Why did my character become an adventurer? (choose or roll a d12)
1. Accused of a crime they did not commit.
2. Accused of a crime they *did* commit.
3. Escaped slavery or indentured servitude.
4. Swore an oath.
5. Owes money.
6. Farm devastated by plague or locusts (supernatural?).
7. Town destroyed by monsters/brigands (supernatural?).
8. Town devastated by plague (supernatural?).
9. Guilt or shame.
10. Fleeing a loveless marriage.
11. Seeking revenge.
12. Deserted the army or clergy.

I have several players who haven't bothered with a character
background as of yet. I'm going to try to entice them with this short
questionnaire. :D

Well, it isn't getting any quieter around here so I'll sign off for now.
