we shouldn't consider junking our older computers that can't
run windows 11.

I was at my wife's parents house the other day, and I asked him
if he wanted me to install ubuntu on his laptop.

A few weeks ago he called me telling me how upset he is about
windows 10 support is going away this october (2025). I told him
no worries I can get ubuntu on his system.

So back to the other day. ... he continued on about how upset he
is. He says something like .... what is everyone supposed to
do.. run out and buy a new computer? He talked about the message
microsoft is sending him every time he boots up his computer
about gaming and all this stuff he doesn't use. He says people
should be able to just do basic stuff on basic computers and not
worry about a huge computer for gaming.

His solution to windows 10 support going way is converting all
his old systems to ubuntu.

Between the time he called me on the phone annoyed about
microsoft ending their support for windows, my wife's computer
which handed been booted up in a year, hit the network and got
the big blocker of a message about upgrading to windows 11. Her
system is new enough to run windows 11, and I kicked off the
upgrade. That upgrade of course failed without a obvious reason
why ... and after 2 days the upgrade completed. That really
annoying part is when I turned on her computer I was actually
trying to use it, but microsoft stopped me from doing what I
needed to do, and put me through a decision tree compel me to
upgrade. This annoys the hell of me. I've been side tracked to
deal with microsoft bullshit instead of using the computer to do
what I need to do.

There is so much of microsoft's bullshit getting in my way and
its AI hiding emails its pissing me off more and more. See for
work I have to use windows and excluding windows servers, I
can't figure out why windows is still the desktop of choice for
most systems being sold. Their control of the user has seemed to
increase and with AI crap everywhere its only getting worse.

when telnet was found to be insecure, The UNIX Linux world moved
to ssh, why the hell didn't microsoft move to ssh? Their OS had
telnet server with the basic os... but when the dropped it, how
many years did it take for ssh to appear in windows? what is
wrong with microsoft such a decision?

As frustrating has this windows 11 thing is I really think I'm
done with windows. Most of the time I use a raspberrypi for my
desktop, and I've been using their systems that way  since
they've come out 2013 (with pain back then). I pay the price to
upgrade to the next model pi  every few years, and deal with
technical challenges I get myself into, but raspberry pi has at
least continued to support their hardware with an OS capability
that has a path in the non-pay zone.

Like my father ... I see no need to run out and buy a new
computer so I can put windows 11 on it.

I understand why microsoft did what they did from their stated
ideas about computing security and attempting to jail processes
via virtualisation .. etc. How did we let the world build such
crap software that requires users to buy new hardware every few
years instead of build on a foundation of usability and
compatibility. I really think their is another purpose for their
virtualzation or newer hardware requirements, something that
hasn't come to the surface yet, but on the trend most of the IT
shops been moving towards. (some form of abuse and control).

Right now I have this beliefe that more and more crapware is out
their and the main problem/solution is getting people to
purchase crapware. In 1.5 years after that software/hardware
bundle is purchased its obsolete and broken and the developers
handed users buggy ass software that doesn't work that well or
often and suck, then they are off working on doing it again.

At my work they got really excited about AGILE and MVP (minimal
viable product) a few years later we have a bunch of buggy crap
that sucks, has no documentation and the developers and teams
that created it are long gone. The company calls this saving
money, in the short term they saved but in the long term they
cripple themselves ... it hurts.

I aint buying no new computer for windows, and I'll probably pay
the price for it I'm sure, in some way I'll pay the dang price.
Like the HAM operator software and upgrades all for windows...
what will they do when ever HAM operator can't buy a new
computer so they can upgrade their firmware on their radio?

I think about BSD for all these years BSD has been able to run
on new computers and old computers. Is microsft liberating its
users? Is microsoft abusing its users? Is microsoft teamed up
with advertisement delivery systems of the internet?

Seems microsoft were very bullish in the 90s and early 2000s in
being part of the creative world, they stole form linux and the
open-source community but at lease created great memories for
today's nostalgic users, but now outside of their server and AD
systems ... they are just a reason to go with Unix or Linux.

Maybe my sentiment is a signal my end of the line approaching.
If you've been in the buis long enough the main game starts to
appear, and the realization (for now) appears its all about
selling something, not about liberation, freedom, and making
information more free and more available. All about control and
domination. Solving the problem of extracting money from
users without giving them anything real in exchange.

AI bullshit: do we really need an AI to tell us what someone
else said, and send them a summarized version of the
communication? People are getting so bad at communicating with
each other how about AI doing all of that for you, in 10 years
people won't even be able to read or write (I'm almost there
myself). Let us all have them sells the product TAKING AWAY YOUR
AUTONOMY ... its so fun! you can go back to drinking sugar pop,
for now.

For those who missed the mid days of the internet, their was a
war between advertisements and ad-blockers. The web browsers
were in the  battle field and the battle ended, the adds lost
due to the battle field changing, but slowly the sinister
evils of the web browsers colluded to make it so more and more
users abuse would appear by web 2 and web 3, and computer users
are just a means to manipulate, sell, and remove usable
information from the collective, replacing it with crapolation,
and idiot AI.

Is AI here to make the internet so dystopic, so shitty that the
users will revile and sicken its repulsion causes them to leave
the screen and return to living in the real world? Or is it to
continue making a large network of one giant transaction center
surrounded by ignorance and fools gold?
