I organize chaos with lists. I have task.txt---
days evy and I work, what we agreed or want to do,
tasks we have to do. I have my checklists at work,
handwritten boxes to check off on copier paper---

Cave list
---------
I know these caves and how to get to them:
* John Griffin in Jackson County;
* Sinks front and back in Rockcastle County;
* Pine Hill in Rockcastle County;
* Mullins Springs in Rockcastle County.
I can figure out how to get to these and should!
* High Water (past Mullins Springs);
* Arthur Singleton's in Rockcastle County;
* Climax in Jackson County, I think;
* Bob Dobbs in Rockcastle County;
* The caves across the road/downstream from Sinks
Yesterday I picked up daughter from her memaw and
papa, then picked up a friend from the library. We
found a less confusing route from my house to John
Griffin and spent the better part of an hour in
there, coming out to stars in the night sky atop
the holler. Tromping around, exploring the cave,
daughter said "Mama I need to talk to you." About
what? I asked. "About my adventures," she said.
This new route puts John Griffin 35 mins from my
house, with a 10-15 minute walk from where I park.
Lenten list
-----------
Lent is for prayer, fasting, and giving. Evy,
daughter, and sometimes both now observe Lenten
prayer with me. In bed we answer these questions:
* What do you remember, what was memorable today?
* Did you feel close to God today? What happened?
* Did you feel far from God today? What happened?
* What from today are you grateful for?
After a moment of silence, we say amen. This is
from the book Faithful Families for Lent, Easter,
and Resurrection, by Traci Smith.
Fiction writing list
--------------------
Early this year, I think, I rediscovered a novel I
wrote about a third of in 2016. It's one of my
favorite things I've written. Evy committed two
months ago to support me Tuesday nights to write
the rest of it. I have about 40,000 words written
in total, about 25,000 typed and posted under the
"Fiction" gopher resource line on my main gopher
map. A novel's about 100,000 words in length.
It's called Woodsmen for now. I wrote alternating
the story of Mike in Kentucky in 1993 as told by
his ex-girlfriend, and the story of his ex,
Katharine, in Memphis in 1993, also told by her.
Now I've split the stories so I can fix gaps and
problems the alternating style wallpapered over.
Eventually I'll braid it back together.
Things to fix:
* The Militia of Montana wasn't founded til '94.
Mike couldn't have ordered from their catalogue
in '93;
* Biggie's first album came out in '94, so the
teenagers couldn't have been bumping it in
their Chevy Cavalier (now they bump Al Kapone);
* The Blizzard of '93, or Storm of the Century,
was a very memorable happening in March. It
needs some time on the page. The assassination
of Dr David Gunn, confirmation of Attorney
General Janet Reno, and some of the Waco
standoff happened during or immediately
adjacent to it. It also provoked the urge to
prep.
* Feds didn't raid marijuana gardens in the
National Forest by helicopter until the late
'90s or early 2000s. They were on foot and in
wheeled vehicles.
* Ronald needs a stronger backstory. I know how
his Mom ended up in Memphis, but not how his
wife ended up in California, why he lives with
his sister and nieces, what happened to his
dad after 1968.
* Where exactly are Katharine's mom's house, the
nightclub Budgie's, and Angelique's house?
Remember Katharine went to Model.
When I finish another chapter I'll flag it on my
main gophermap, at the request of an email friend.
Bike list
---------
I'm still riding evy's old mountain bike with the
seat cranked up way high, despite a helpful email
from a friend who read about my woes with my 1971
Schwinn Varsity. The brake handles are reachable
now and the chain doesn't skip, but I can't get the
brake shoes to firmly grab the steel rims, the
seat won't stay parallel to the ground after I put
my weight on it no matter how much I torque the
bolt, and after my second ride it got a flat tire,
maybe due to the truing job.
So I have to:
* Check the inside of the rims for pokey spokes;
* Fix the flat;
* Ask my mechanic to help me with the brakes;
* Ask my mechanic if the seatpost is repairable
or if I have to replace it.
I'll be glad to be guided by these lists through
the next week or two.
