I love to answer Christina's questions; read
others' answers. She wrote 5 for September!

1. What is your go-to conversation starter?

   Where you from?
Alternatively, for teens in mental hospital,
Was it your idea to come or somebody else's?

2. Describe the interior of your ideal home.

Dogtrot with central hallway. 4 "cabins" open
to it. 12-foot ceilings, finished with tongue-
and groove board. Each cabin-like room has a
woodstove and ceiling fan. Deep porches all
around, but plenty of natural light. Breezy
central hallway "dogtrot" common space. Each
cabin-like room changes with our needs. At one
time a bedroom, a workshop, or a study. In
hard times a family per room rather than a
person or couple. It gets dusty but never
   molds nor mildews.

   Kitchen, garage, springhouse, bathroom, laundry
are a separate building, and together with the
house define a courtyard. Cooling, heating,
lighting, air exchanges mostly passive. It's
not obvious if there's electricity or not. It
   insulates, breathes, shelters, brings inhabit-
ants and visitors together, gives privacy, all
without fuss, with a cozy settled sense of
eternity. Nothing's new, nothing needs to be
replaced. Memories of generations are made. It
fits the lives lived in it.

3. When you visit a foreign or new-to-you city,
what are you most keen to see and experience?

Good food, everyday life, music, things part-
   icular to this place.

4. I used to be a mean street-fighter but I'm not
  any more.

5. What's something good and small your friend did
  for you lately?

Cleaned the french press after he made coffee
so I didn't have to before I made tea.

Played in the woods with my daughter for 90
   minutes while I caved.

   Tied me---hands up, shoulderblade cleavage---,
pretended I was a captured dragon, subdued me.

Talked trash in the parking lot at midnight
   after a brutal 17-hour shift.

   Organized a social bike ride.

   Cooked the string beans.
