I worked too hard again, like I did in January. That
time, I worked 70 hours in every conceivable shift
for the hell of it before moving from a PRN schedule
to full-time. The hospital was glad I picked up lit-
erally everything. When that week was over, I had a
good feel for every unit, night and day, and took a
solid day of rest.

Now I'm a married working student mother. I didn't
work too hard for the thrill this time. I worked
too hard because it was midterms, my parents visited
from out of state, Cassie moved out of state, I
commute to another county for school and work, and
maternity leave ended for Evy and me. What a week!

I did 80 solid hours between work and school, which
is a lot, but I've done it before. But on top of that,
I spent six hours commuting, did baby care, and spent
time with Cassie, Evy (my spouse), and my parents. I
survived the week with the aid of denial of how tired
I was.

Evy and I had a sleepy argument at the end of it all.
She's lonely and wants to do more with her life. She
asks for help, but it's hard. As for me, when I over-
extend myself, I need to be honest about it with my-
self and her, and give attention to recognizing and
communicating my limits.

The task of abandoning the aid of denial continues.
It's wonderful I was late for nothing, did good work,
and attended to the people I love during the week of
too-hard work. Room to grow; proud of my growth.
