Taking Walks
2020-02-13

For the month of February I am between jobs. Basically a month long
vacation. Pretty awesome,  and very relaxing. The old  job burnt me
out pretty thorougly,  so my current free time is  welcome and good
for me.

Next gig will be remote only (fucking awesome!), which means I have
to be careful with  how I structure my days. Usually  I am prone to
not leave the house  when I don't have to. Heeding  the advice of a
friend I  decided to leave the  house with my wife  in the mornings
and go for a walk.

I started this  the first day of unemployment and  plan to continue
for as  long as  I am  working remote.  Before now  it was  never a
possibility because of the horribly  long commute. No coffee before
the walk either, because once I am sitting on the couch with coffee
I am  not leaving the  house, especially  when it's cold  and windy
outside. So first thing in the  morning is go outside into the dark
biting chill. Currently I am out  about 20 minutes or so, depending
on the weather.

It does wonders. Fresh air and some moving about really wakes me up
(i am  not a morning person).  The best thing is  the quiet. Nobody
out at these hours,  so I have a nice time for  myself. It forces a
bit of  a slower  start into  the day,  giving me  time to  sort my
thoughts.

Once home, some  strong tasty coffee on the couch,  looking out the
window admiring  the birds.  Then I  am ready for  the day  - which
admittedly isn't too bad currently.

Let's hope I can  keep this up, but it does me some  real good so I
think I will.
