So, like many people around here I've been meaning to un[insert service]
my life for a while now, and I've been facing the same hurdles everybody
else has had to deal with.

Right now, email is the biggest one. I've been using gmail for a few
years, and finding a provider to replace it with that I feel confident
will not get silently blacklisted feels like I'd get better results if I
just flipped a coin and hoped for the best.

Protonmail seems like it'd be the best choice, but it seems the only way
to fetch your mail outside of a browser is to go through some vpn-ish
contraption of theirs, and fuck using that for the usual obvious
reasons.
I'll take any leads you guys throw my way.

As a sidenote, it's beyond terrifying to me how people assume that
"email just works" and that it is intrinsically more secure than
physical mail could ever be expected to be. Out of sight, out of mind I
suppose.
