I know, wrong book, but I love Stanislaw Lem too much to pass it up.

For the uninitiated, among many other books, Lem wrote "The Cyberiad"
which is a humorous mock-epic reminiscent of Don Quixote but taking
the form of various "sallies" of two constructor robots, Trurl and
Klapaucius, as they travel around the galaxy building robots or
machines for various people (or other robots). In the course of their
adventures they have to overcome various sorts of evil, incompetence,
hubris and their own inadequacies.

For those with knowledge of Cybernetics, Information Theory or other
curiosities you will come across neat references or allusions as you
go along in the book, but the stories stand well on their own.
