Watching:
I just finished watching the 17 episode run of "The
Prisoner", a 1967 sci-fi espionage series. With episode one,
it looks like you're getting a pretty bog-standard current
day spy thriller with more gas-lighting than you can shake a
stick at. I recommend watching one or two episodes to see if
it's your cup of tea. I must warn you though that towards
the end it gets rather more "Dr. Strangelove". I didn't read
anything about it before tucking in and so I personally
found the shift a little jolting. Well worth sampling, you
can find it on Archive.Org.
Currently, I am in contempt of the law:
My smallholding is all of about an acre. The few trees are
massive maples of greater nuisance than benefit. Bordering
me on two edges is a large tract owned by a wealthy person
from 'away'. Their cottage alternates between long periods
of vacancy and rental. Along the edge of my lot, their
'property' is second growth mixed hardwood. Therein is an
overabundance of deadwood, both standing and 'prone', of
which I have lately 'partaken'. I fancy myself the peasant
from 'Good King Wenceslas' but the fact remains I trespass
and I commit theft. It's all deadwood, destined to rot, and I
have chosen to arbitrarily eschew the use of mechanized saws
in collection, but these things do not excuse the fact I am
a common criminal. Viva les Commons!
Taking Stock:
My last foray to the grocers' was on the twentieth of March.
While we still have sufficient nutrients for a month or more
- and toilet paper as well - our supply of fresh produce is
nearly exhausted. We have enough veggies for a crock-pot of
spaghetti sauce stashed in the freezer (for a real treat in
a week or twos time). We have a quarter head of cabbage, a
quart of frozen rutabaga, three radishes, one carrot, a
single clove of garlic plus a pinkie sized piece of ginger,
and three to four pounds of potatoes - some of which I'm
encouraging to grow eyes as an investment in the future. In
a recent post I described gathering and using Day Lilies.
Coming soon will be posts on early wild salad greens, wild
parsnips, shelf mushrooms and more. I hope you look forward
to those post as much as I look forward to eating those
delicacies!
May you and those you love stay Safe and Well.
In Solidarity,
Tim
