On Saturday, I went to a rummage sale. Sitting there,
forlorn and all of three US dollars was a Victor
Comptometer Series 600 adding machine. I took it home. Not
for the simple joy that most of us share for anachronisms.
Nay, but also for the fact that my mother used to work there
in the early '60s. The Bakelite case has a crack near the
paper output and a 8x2 mm chunk missing from the edge of the
apron on the front. It's missing the "dust shield" that's
sort of a template that sets over the keys and under the
shell, but is otherwise complete. I have to re-ink the
ribbon. But this isn't simply a "Hey look at my new swag"
kind of post, oh no mon frere!
You see, in my quest for a manual for this beast (which I
couldn't find) I DID find a extensive set of pre-LCD
electronic calculator manuals at ( www.wass.net/manuals ).
I am certain that at least one of my fellow Wranglers either
knows about or is actively seeking this sort of resource -
so here it is. My job is done.
My barometer is on its way up after a week of crap.
