                       ELEMENTS OF STYLE
               MY PERSONAL DESIGN TIPS FOR GOPHER

Forward:
The inspiration for this document is Gopher Design Tips [1] though
in my case the ideas aren't meant as suggestions for anyone but
myself. My tendency toward order and predictability almost mandated
this creation.

Menu Presentation Standards
  * The main gophermap should be limited to one "page" (20 lines).
  * Secondary gophermaps should be limited to 2 pages (excepting
    the Phlog roll).
  * The Tertiary level is the limit of depth and will never be a
    gophermap (exc. Phlog).
  * The Phlog roll is ordered chronologically, newest entry first.
  * The first menu item of any secondary or tertiary gophermap
    must be a link to return to parent level.

Main GopherMap: Fixed Menu Items
  * The first menu item should be a .txt file labeled "About" with
    autobiographical content.
  * Technical details of the server shall be limited to a
    footnote in this file or else become their own menu item.
  * The second menu item should be a Now file. [2]

Items (documents)
  * File names are immaterial. However, menu item descriptions
    should be detailed and germain if Veronica optomization is
    desired.
  * Don't put information in an area that does not fit the topic.
    Stick to the topic!
  * Clearly identify links to external material.
  * Indicate, in the item name, if a link is empty.
  * Most relevant information should be organized at top of menu.
  * Alphabetizing is not the desired method of organizing menu
    options.
  * Files should not be duplicated but referenced.
  * Where possible, document widths should be limited to 70
    characters or less. Notable exceptions include scripts and
    program source code.
  * Where horizontal lines are desired, use underlines (____)
    rather than hyphens (----).
  * Footnote external references as done in this document.
