33 - At the fort.
[email protected]

I was at the local "fort" the other day. It's this
abandoned  construction   lot  where   the  Braxon
chieftains have  set up  a couple of  trailers and
tables and whatever.  I guess it gives  them a bit
more presence  and connection in this  area. To me
it's   like  a   trading   post   and  a   general
store. They've  got connections with  the truckers
and at  the ports, and  there's lots of  every day
stuff to buy, but also other things. And you never
know what you might be able  to buy from them on a
given day.  I remember  Ric bought  this authentic
cuckoo clock from them.  I heard the Leongs picked
up some kind of top-of-the-line breast pump, after
their baby was born. It's just like, random.

The  chieftains themselves  aren't usually  there,
just  one of  their underlings  or lieutenants  or
whatever they  call themselves.  (I just  call him
Bil.) And a couple of centaurs they hire as guards
or something. So I swing by there like I sometimes
do, to say hi to Bil, chat for a bit, check in and
all that. He exchanges some  of my gold nugget for
cash, and I buy some  little am/fm radio, and this
beige computer box which is the kind old Hat likes
best for  some reason. She's slowly  trying to put
the library  back together, which is  great, and I
have some dough  right now so I want  to help with
that.

Bil's  not  the  worst,  but most  of  the  Braxon
chieftains and  their crew  are pretty  bad dudes,
though I  won't get into the  details. And frankly
I'd rather not associate at  all, but I have to be
practical, because  I think it's a  good idea that
they know of me just a  little bit. Not know me so
much that they ever would call  on me to do them a
favor,  or  even  worse  I  call  on  them  for  a
favor. Mostly I just want to avoid somehow getting
on their bad side. Anyways,  I wish I could afford
to take a  moral stand against more  things, but I
just  don't  have  that kind  of  privilege  right
now. Sometimes you just got to survive.
