Almost halfway through summer

July 31st 2024
============================

My summer break is definitely going a little too fast. A lot of people I
know have been getting covid but our little trio of a household still
hasn't gotten it once yet.

It's spooky because I don't entirely know what we've been doing
differently than other people. I know that we're just asininely
restrictive about wearing masks indoors and not eating or drinking
outside of our apartment unless it's outside but we're not the only ones
who do that.

In other random news, I'm supposed to be teaching high-school teachers
about how to integrate coding-activities into their curriculum even if
they're not cs teachers and it's going to involve showing interactive
fiction in twine, art and physics simulation in p5 and things like that.

I actually wrote a printable zine years ago to help students bootstrap
making stories in twine, back from when I taught middle and high school
programming classes before my new "college professor life" and y'know
it's honestly pretty good? I'm definitely going to give that to the
teachers as a "here's a thing you can print out and give students" and I
wanted to do a bunch of original writing and work of p5 too but

huh

I really think I might end up, instead, compiling a bunch of resources
and pre-built curricula for them and then giving some fun demos because
honestly I know the high school instructor crowd and they're mostly too
fugging burned out and exhausted to really be able to pick up a bunch of
new skills they've never used before, so I need to make myself not use
it as an opportunity to be clever and entertain myself by doing
difficult things and, instead, come up with things that will just be
practically helpful for the teachers

I still haven't gotten back to my beginner crochet projects since I last
posted but in my defense I got super busy with a bunch of actual work
things and also going on a cleaning binge because our property manager
may or may not enter the apartment tomorrow because we can't get them to
cancel a repair ticket for a thing our apartment doesn't even have and
was clearly meant for other building they own.

Fun times!

Otherwise, though, I've got a lot of reading and coding for fun I want
to do. I think it'd be cool to try and finish some little projects for
catjam---a game jam that runs til the end of august and is entirely
about having fun in concatenative languages.
