Holder Nomination Signals Big Brother's Agenda: The nomination of Eric
Holder for the post of attorney general of the United States sends an
"alarming signal" to gun owners about how the Barack Obama
administration will view individual gun rights, as affirmed this year by
the Supreme Court, the Second Amendment Foundation said today...
Holder's nomination, like the appointment of anti-gun Illinois
Congressman Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff, tells American
gun owners that Obama's campaign claims supporting the Second Amendment
were "empty rhetoric," Gottlieb stated...

Nation's Loss Is Arizona's Gain: Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) has
been chosen to serve as secretary of the vast and troubled Department of
Homeland Security for President-elect Obama, Democratic officials said.
Napolitano is a border governor who will now be responsible for
immigration policy and border security, which are part of Homeland
Security's myriad functions... (Known as "J No," for her increasing
vetoes of pro-RKBA bills in Arizona, Napolitano's departure will leave
Republican secretary of state Jan Brewer as governor. I recall meeting
Jan and signing her nominating petition at a Tucson gun show.)

What About All Those People Voting with Their Pocketbooks?: ... In
polling of 1,083 voters conducted between November 5 and 9 by Penn,
Schoen & Berland Associates for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun
Violence, the results showed that "2008 Presidential election voters of
every type and description strongly support common sense gun laws and
would like to see the Obama administration take action on these issues
soon," according to Rob Green, who headed the gun issue polling effort
for the Washington D.C.-based firm.  "Support for sensible changes in
gun laws is strong not only among those who voted for [President-Elect]
Obama; certain common sense restrictions are also supported by the vast
majority of McCain voters." ... (So, how to explain the mobs of people
trying to stock up an AR-15's, ammunition, etc, before Big Brother takes
office? True, there have been sightings of Obama bumper stickers at gun
stores and gun shows. I can recall California liberals racing to buy
handguns before the deadline requiring a Basic Firearm Safety
Certificate for such purchases. Still, 1,083 seems like a small sample
and the poll was commissioned by the Brady Bunch.)

BATFE Introduces Electronic 4473: Every year, the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives finds thousands of licensed gun dealers
in violation of federal law, often for very minor problems. The agency,
which conducts about 11,000 inspections a year, says it has come up with
a way to eliminate many of those violations before they happen. Instead
of filling out the required ATF paperwork by hand, gun buyers and
dealers will now be able to complete what officials say is a fail-safe
electronic version of the document, known as Form 4473... (No mention is
made of the apparent theft of Coloseum Software's work product

Supervisors Tell California Sheriff to Relax CWP Standards: County
supervisors, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and hundreds of gun activists
engaged Tuesday in a Wild West-style shootout over restrictive concealed
gun policies Hutchens has introduced during her first six months in
office. After hearing more than 80 speakers present compelling stories
of threats and safety concerns, supervisors unanimously adopted a
resolution calling on Hutchens to ease her review of concealed weapons
permits and broaden the reasons why a member of the public could carry a
concealed handgun... (Orange County was as close to shall-issue as
possible under deposed sheriff Mike Carona. Hutchens has sought to
implement the same highly restrictive standards as neighboring L.A. County.)

Chicago Suburb Drops Handgun Ban: The decision to strike Winnetka's
handgun ban came tough for the Village Council, and it was even tougher
for some residents to accept. Minutes after trustees unanimously voted
to amend the weapons ordinance at the Nov. 18 meeting, the ban's
supporters clashed with opponents in a heated verbal exchange outside
the council chambers. An explosion of accusations erupted from the small
group of people, but it quickly fizzled as Winnetka police officers
separated them. "Don't blame me! Read the constitution!" shouted Joseph
Nesler, one of three Winnetka residents, who (with the National Rifle
Association) sued the village to have the ban repealed...

Pittsburgh Debates Stolen-Gun Bill: The city's Law Department and its
Police Bureau are at odds over a gun control bill. A Ravenstahl
administration lawyer testified yesterday that a proposed requirement
that city gun owners notify police when their guns are stolen is
unenforceable under state law. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has been silent on
a bill three city councilmen proposed last month exposing gun owners to
fines and possible jail time if they do not report their guns are
stolen, and the guns are later used in crimes. The law - also approved
by Philadelphia and Allentown, after the General Assembly voted down a
statewide version - is widely supported by law enforcement officials
statewide and opposed by gun-rights groups...

More Misdirection in New Jersey: ... An important gun-control bill had
been scheduled for a vote today in the Assembly, but late last week the
Assembly's Democratic leadership decided to postpone the vote until Dec.
15, to give its backers more time to bring public pressure on lawmakers
to support it... That passage would make New Jersey the second state,
after California, to prohibit ownership of any weapon of .50 caliber or
greater. Gusciora sponsored a similar bill in the last session, but it
never came to a vote. A2116 is doing better. It was approved by the
Judiciary Committee June 12, 5-1 (the "no" was cast by Assemblywoman
Caroline Casagrande, R-Freehold, whose district includes East Windsor
and Hightstown)... (Not mentioned is that the bill is so vague that it
would ban .5o-caliber muzzleloaders and African hunting rifles.)

Oops, Wrong Store, Different Version: Two men attempting to rob a
Brooklyn store were killed Monday night following a shootout. Police
sources tell NY1 that four people, two of whom had guns, entered a store
on Nostrand Avenue around 8:30 p.m Monday. According to police sources,
the shop owner pulled out his own gun, struggled with one of the
suspects and opened fire, killing two of the attackers. The others fled
the scene. Sources also say there may have been another man outside as a
lookout. The store owner was shot multiple times. One of his employees
was also hit in the leg. Both were expected Tuesday to make a complete
recovery... (This appears to be an alternative version of an account
shared yesterday. In the version from The New York Times, the store
owner was reported to have disarmed one of the robbers and used that
gun. With New York City's draconian restrictions on firearm ownership,
it's possible that the store owner did not want to admit owning an
unregistered handgun.)
