Big Brother Victory Boosts Large Gun Show: ...Joe Wanenmacher, manager
of the show, said the event usually draws about 30,000 people, but he
expects closer to 35,000 at this weekend's edition - print
advertisements for which say "Buy Before New Laws." "It's a little
larger this year," Wanenmacher said. "People are concerned about the
results of the election." One would have thought Saturday that the Tulsa
State Fair was back in town. The parking lots at Expo Square were packed
with vehicles brandishing license plates not only from Oklahoma and
contiguous states, but also from places such as Nevada, Minnesota and
Alabama...

And in Texas...: Reports across the Nation show that gun and ammunition
sales on the rise. It's happening here in Texoma, and concealed hand gun
classes are filling up as well. Gun owners and those thinking about
buying a weapon are concerned gun laws are going to tighten up under
President-Elect Obama. Gun owners worry the Obama administration will
raise taxes on guns or hand down new restrictions. Handgun instructors
have heard from more people interested in classes since the election.
Kathy Richardson and Marvin Walls teach concealed handgun classes. They
say now that Barack Obama is headed to the white house, their students
are worried about their right to bear arms and so are they...

And in Kentucky...: It is the second amendment to the United States
Constitution, and many people are practicing their right to bear arms.
Charles Gilbert, a manager at Target World in Sharonville, says the
demand is like nothing he's seen before. "9-11, when that happened, or
when the riots happened a couple years ago, sales peaked during those
time periods, but nothing to what we're seeing today. No comparison,"
Gilbert said. Customers say they're buying guns because they're not sure
what President Elect Barack Obama is going to do...

Gun-Sale Surge, Seen by a Survivalist: ...Get all the guns, ammo and
full capacity magazines you can afford now while you still can. Prices
are already going up and in some cases are double what they were only a
month ago. Several cache tubes loaded with guns, ammunition and
magazines hidden around your area is good insurance against eventual
confiscation by Obama's National Security Force. Weapons obtained
through private sales are best because you want to avoid the usual paper
trail that comes with purchasing a firearm from a gun shop. Flea markets
and gun shows are the first places to look. If you can't find what you
want here, then putting an ad in a local newspaper or better yet one
from another area stating that you are a collector interested purchasing
firearms for top dollar, will bring in plenty of offers from people
needing extra cash...

Gun-Sale Surge, Seen from Down Under: ..."The philosophy behind this is
that people are legitimately concerned that under the Obama
administration with a majority of Democrats in both the House and the
Senate, there will be an attempt to ban certain types of firearms,"
including semi-automatic rifles, said Dave Workman, senior editor of Gun
Week. The last election of a Democratic president in 1992 sparked a
similar gun-buying spree, said Mr Aeschliman. "That same phenomenon had
happened when (Bill) Clinton was first elected. There was a lot of panic
buying because he was not perceived to be favourable to guns," he
said... (Yeah, among other things, we got a ten-year ban on purchases of
cosmetically impaired firearms and full-capacity magazines and an
executive order banning importation of affordable firearms and
ammunition from China.)

Officer, Should I Buy a Gun?: ...You often hear the advice to never say
never or never say always, but here is one always for you: Whenever
someone asks me about ANY self defense tool, whether it is a firearm, OC
spray, Tasers, other weapons or unarmed defensive tactics, my first
advice is ALWAYS: Make sure you have received training in the use of
whatever tool you have selected! Every self defense tool or technique
has its proper uses and improper uses. The most responsible advice you
can give starts with this admonition. It is also good advice if you are
concerned about liability. Always recommend that a person understand the
choice they have made and how to properly apply that choice. For
example, one of the most basic considerations about owning a gun for
self protection is: can you make the decision to use it if you are faced
with deadly peril? Can you take the life of another human being, if
necessary, and cope with the consequences? Can you safely and
responsibly handle and use a firearm? Will you participate in proper
training? If you can't, or won't, then don't buy a gun. Seek
alternatives and be prepared to protect yourself in other ways. What
other ways? ...

Good Points: ...Some children and adults learn about guns from video
games and movies instead of legitimate teachers or parents. These
methods of media give the viewer the impression that guns are toys and
that life is not precious. I'm not saying to change the entertainment,
but gun education needs to be taught to everyone in some form. Not only
would this help stop accidental deaths, this would allow people to
appreciate and respect guns and their abilities. Also, safety devices
such as locks and safes need to be used when inexperienced people and
children are in the house...

Mushy Thinking on Campus: ...The truth remains that guns don't kill
people, people kill people. Whether or not certain forms of firearm are
banned won't change that fact. All it means if semi-automatic weapons
are banned is that the bullet that kills a person came out of a
single-or-double-action handgun. That person is still dead. Still, the
second amendment should not be used to justify the ownership of a
semi-automatic firearm. Remember that when that amendment was penned,
guns were more similar to clubs that fired lead balls than a modern
firearm... (And early printing presses bore little resemblance to TV's
and the internet.)

Illinois CCW Referendum Reviewed: Most voters in 10 Illinois counties
said on Election Day that they think the state should pass a law
permitting citizens to carry concealed weapons, but voters in another
four counties rejected the idea... State Rep. David Reis, a Willow Hill
Republican who supports legalizing concealed-carry in Illinois, said on
Wednesday he thought the referendum questions weren't worded properly.
They failed to explain that concealed-carry permits would be available
only to individuals who complete a training course, pass a background
check and get certified, he said. Reis intends to introduce
concealed-carry legislation in the General Assembly soon so lawmakers
can consider it next year...

Seattle Mayor Ignores AG Opinion: An unequivocal "no" from the state
Attorney General's Office is often enough to shoot down a city proposal.
Not so with a move by Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to ban legally
permitted handguns from city-owned parks and buildings, an effort that,
if successful, could shatter a 47-year-old state prohibition against
cities' regulation of firearms. The Mayor's Office continues to build a
case for the ban despite an Oct. 14 opinion issued by Attorney General
Rob McKenna's office arguing that the city cannot pre-empt state gun
law. The mayor hopes to introduce an administrative order next month...

killed a burglar Saturday morning, police said. Authorities said they
received a call at about 8 a.m. about a shooting. When officers arrived
