*Todd Palin Touts Second Amendment in Minnesota: *Saying the right to
bear arms "isn't just another amendment," the husband of Republican vice
presidential candidate Sarah Palin angled for the votes of Minnesota
sportsmen Thursday and tried to stoke their support for U.S. Sen. Norm
Coleman...Coleman's Democratic opponent, Al Franken, is also on record
supporting the Second Amendment. "He believes all Minnesotans must be
assured the right to own guns for collection, protection and sport,"
said Franken's spokeswoman, Colleen Murray...(This is Al Franken of Air
American fame - I can imagine how seriously he supports the RKBA.)

Michigan Reporter Attends CCW Course: *Before we even get started, I'm
not here to "glorify" guns; I've never owned one and doubt that I will
anytime soon. But I am here to tell you how impressed I was with the
Concealed Pistol License (CPL) class run by the Chelsea Rod & Gun Club
in mid-September...I agreed with many of the class participants that it
was fun, but the fun was tempered by the realization that this was a
deadly serious subject. When they said "a firearm is a tool of last
resort," that's exactly what they mean...

Employers Counseled on Parking-Lot-Storage Laws: *...In states where
possession and transportation of firearms are legal and employers cannot
implement policies to prevent firearms from being brought onto company
property, you should first determine if you are exempt from the
applicable law because of the nature of the business, or if it is
permissible to create a "secured parking area," thereby potentially
stepping into an exception to such laws (in some states)...

Building a Better Bullet: ...*Made of non-toxic tungsten instead of
nasty old lead, these fancy new bullets would not cause any harm if they
were, say, eaten by a goose. Presumably they would still do some damage
if they traveled through a goose at a high velocity, but what do you
want? Science can only do so much at once... (As far as I know, it's a
stretch to call tungsten "non-toxic." Tungsten has repeatedly been
investigated as the possible cause of clusters of childhood leukemia.)

Shot Placement, Shot Placement, Shot Placement: *It was a
one-in-a-million shot, but luckily for Ron J. Leming, his father
accurately fired the arrow from his bow the one time it counted the most
- as a 500-pound grizzly bear chased him downhill...As he was falling,
Leming pivoted onto his back. As the bear bore down on him, he fought
back, throwing punches and kicking to keep the bear away from his
head...The grizzly staggered down the hill about 80 yards and fell over
dead. With his first shot at the running bear, the elder Leming had
likely nicked the bear's aorta, causing it to quickly bleed out...

*Brit Reviews /The American Rifle/: The *belief that its riflemen are
the world's best marksmen runs through America's military history. It
dates back at least to the American War of Independence (1775-83) when
sharpshooters born and bred on the frontier killed a disproportionate
number of British officers. Their long shots were effective but their
deliberate targeting was nonetheless deplored by the British army, whose
soldiers armed with muskets advanced in formation in full sight of the
enemy...
