Most Likely Voters Disagree with Obama on RKBA: A strong majority of
likely voters disagree with Democratic presidential candidate Barack
Obama on firearms and self-defense related issues, according to a
just-released ATI-News/Zogby poll. Brad O'Leary, president of
ATI-News.com and author of the explosive new book, The Audacity of
Deceit: Barack Obama's War on American Values, notes that opposition to
Obama's stance on these issues is widespread across multiple

McCain's Past Feuds: ...One of the biggest battles McCain has had was
with the National Rifle Association. He sponsored legislation requiring
background checks at guns shows and a bill to tighten campaign finance
laws, including restrictions on issue ads by third-party groups in the
waning days of an election... "We have had two disagreements with John
McCain on gun shows and campaign finance. However, we like to examine
everyone's record in its entirety," said Andrew Arulanandam, an NRA
spokesman. "McCain has a solid pro-gun voting record. There are two
disagreements. You contrast that with Barack Obama's record, which is a
consistent record of voting against gun rights, hunting rights and even
self defense," he said...

Brady Bunch Questions Sarah Palin: ... Most Americans, including
President Bush, support banning military-style semiautomatic assault
weapons. What is your position? Do you agree with Senator McCain that
the "gun-show loophole"(allowing individuals to buy guns at a gun show
with no background check from so-called "private sellers") should be
closed? ... Do you agree with Senator McCain that background check
approval records for gun purchases should be kept for 90 days instead of
24 hours, that ATF should be able to require gun stores to conduct
inventory audits, and that crime gun trace information should be more
widely available to law enforcement and the public? [See Senator
McCain's statement on the Senate floor, 1-22-04...]

Good Point, Wayne: Residents of Vallejo, California, are facing a public
safety crisis right now. The city's declared bankruptcy, and crime is
rising. Police are leaving the force for better-paying jobs in other
cities, and there's no real solution in sight. It wouldn't solve every
problem facing the local leaders in Vallejo, but I think Solano County,
where Vallejo is located, should treat concealed-carry as "Shall-Issue,"
rather than keeping the very restrictive policies that are currently in
place. Residents of Vallejo have the same right to self-defense as every
other American, and with the exodus of police officers, it's more
important than ever that those citizens have the tools to defend
themselves and their families.

Oops, Wrong Car: Miami-Dade police said a woman opened fire on three men
who were trying to break into a car in Miami Lakes early Thursday. The
three men were trying to break into a car outside a home near Northwest
57th Avenue north of the Palmetto Expressway at about 1:30 a.m., police
said. Miami-Dade police said they think the men were trying to steal the
car's stereo... "These subjects came here to do a crime," said Bobby
Williams of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "Once that crime was
committed, the boyfriend came out to stop them or at least to talk to
them. They attacked him, so she was in fear for her boyfriend's safety
and herself." ... One of the three men had been shot in the chest and
was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was in critical
condition, NBC 6's Steve Litz reported...

Oops, Wrong Garage: Baltimore police say the owner of an auto repair
shop fatally shot a man trying to rob his business. It happened around
6:30 p.m. Friday at Joe's Garage in northwest Baltimore. Police
spokesman Sterling Clifford says this was the second time that owner
Joseph Goldman has shot someone trying to rob his business, but he did
not have further details about the first shooting. In Friday's incident,
police say two men entered the business and displayed a handgun, but
Goldman grabbed his own gun and fired at the men, hitting one. The
injured man was taken to Sinai Hospital where police say he was
pronounced dead. Police did not release that man's name. The second man
fled and police are still looking for him.

Author Faces Decade in Prison: ... The main problem seems to be that
Manso's Firearms Identification Card expired after the passage of new
legislation in 1998 - previously, FIDs lasted a lifetime; now they
expire every six years. The new law has caused endless problems in the
Bay State, since authorities have not been very effective about
informing gun owners of the change.  As the Globe reports, "In July
2002, a State House committee found that thousands of Massachusetts
residents were probably unaware that they needed to renew fire
identification cards..."

2008. But when an advertisement for a Franklin County bicentennial rifle

The Founders' Second Amendment: ... The book is a study of the period
from 1768 to 1826, as it says on the book's flyleaf, "from the last
years of British rule and the American Revolution through the adoption
of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and the passing of the
Founders' generation." It not only uses the words and actions of the
"Founders' generation" to show why the Second Amendment came about, but
to explain the meaning of the amendment and to make clear to whom the
amendment applies and the level of importance the Founders attached to
this "right..."

Canadian Province Adds Restrictions: Quebec's new gun control
legislation, Bill 9, comes into force today. The legislation is dubbed
Anastasia's law in memory of 18-year-old Anastasia DeSousa, who was
killed during the Sept. 2006 Dawson College shooting. The law bans the
possession of firearms in schools and daycare centres and on public and
school transportation...Under the new rules, teachers, gun club owners,
and public transit and health care workers are also required to report
suspicious behaviour relating to firearms, even if it contradicts
doctor-patient or any other confidentiality. Further, there will be
mandatory supervision of target practice where restricted and banned
firearms are in use...
