More Commentary on Heller: ...Unfortunately, the actual language of
Heller makes clear that it is far from a major victory for gun owners.
As we will show, the majority opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia in
Heller is the legal equivalent of a squib load. In firearms parlance, a
"squib load" denotes a cartridge that ignites, but does not generate the
pressure normally obtained with its particular content of primer,
powder, and bullet. As a result, the bullet will not hit the target. Far
worse, it may simply lodge in the barrel, creating a hazardous
obstruction if not removed before another round is fired...

Governor Says Districts Should Make Own Policies: Gov. Rick Perry said
Monday that local school districts should be able to decide whether to
allow concealed weapons on their campuses. "I'm pretty much a fan that
if you've been trained, if you are registered, then you ought to be able
to carry a weapon," Perry said. He was asked about the policy of a small
school district west of Wichita Falls, which may be the first to allow
employees who are licensed to carry concealed handguns to bring their
weapons to the district's lone 110-student, K-12 campus...

Illinois County to Place CCW Referendum on Ballot: Woodford County
voters will weigh in this November on a topic that some gun-rights
advocates think has been ignored too long in Springfield. The County
Board on Monday agreed to put a non-binding referendum on the general
election ballot asking whether residents want state legislators to enact
laws allowing trained citizens to carry concealed firearms. The vote
will be advisory only, and is intended to send a signal to Springfield
about whether Illinois residents want such legislation in the state, one
of only two that don't have so-called concealed-carry laws...

Too Much of a Good Thing?: A Springfield, Vt., man has been charged with
murder after allegedly firing his rifle twice at a man wielding an axe
and then bashing the wounded man's head with the butt of the rifle
during a fracas witnessed by dozens of onlookers near a softball field
off Route 103 in Chester, Vt., on Sunday night. Arguing that he acted in
self-defense, 24-year-old Kyle D. Bolaski pleaded not guilty to charges
of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in Windsor District Court
yesterday. Bolaski likely would not have been charged had he stopped
after the firing first shot into 32-year-old Vincent Tamburello of
Springfield, Vt., Windsor County State's Attorney Robert Sand said. But
once wounded, Tamburello no longer represented a serious threat to
Bolaski, Sand said... (The facts are still in dispute. Note, however,
the morass created by "shooting to wound," particularly when it
eventually results in death.)

Neighbors Protest New Orleans Shootout: ... But Abraham says his brother
was only carrying $50, and so when the robbers demanded more, his
brother pulled out his own gun to defend himself. "What happened wasn't
just some gunfight; it was a matter of life and death situation." But on
Tuesday night, a handful residents showed up to the First District
police station, arguing otherwise. During the New Orleans Neighborhood
and Police Anti-Crime Council Meeting (NONPAC), residents argued that
the store employee should not have continued to shoot at the robbers,
especially if the two men were fleeing the scene...

Own a Gun? Bring It In: Oklahoma police investigating the shooting
deaths of two girls have told area residents with guns to bring them in
for a test to determine whether they were used in the attack, sparking
concern among those who own guns for hunting and self-defense. According
to reports in the Tulsa World the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
sent letters to members of the community who were registered as owning
40-caliber handguns suggesting they voluntarily bring in their gun or
guns for a test. The individuals who were "invited" to bring their guns
in but didn't now will be included in the ongoing investigation, as well
as people who were identified by former owners as having purchased that
type of weapon recently, authorities said...

11-Year-Old, Teens Burglarize Gun Shop: An 11-year-old boy joined four
teens in a late-night gun shop heist that netted 15 firearms - then
boarded a city bus for the trip home, police said... A security camera
caught the boy in action, Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said
Wednesday. We can see the youngest one, the 11-year-old, at the gun
store taking guns," Adams said. "It's amazing that an 11-year-old kid
would think of being involved in something like that." The suspects may
have been foiled by the lack of a getaway car...

shotgun-wielding robber in her Elk Grove convenience store, and the

expect. Amy Anand is sporting a black eye and cuts to her face and arms,

Tangentially Related: ...Researchers have discovered a major trend
toward federalization of crimes since the nation was founded in 1776,
Accuracy in Media reports. A study has recorded a major boost in the
quantity of federal crimes within U.S. law. "When the country started,
there were basically three crimes: piracy, counterfeiting and treason,"
former Attorney General Edwin Meese told the publication. "At the time
of our [1998] report, there were some 4,000 crimes..."
