Hillary Clinton, Church-Going Gun Owner: After a weekend spent making
direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said
Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church
services "is not a relevant question in this debate" over Barack Obama's
recent comments on small town Americans. "We can answer that some other
time," Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class
neighborhood here. "This is about what people feel is being said about
them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?" (Yes but when did you
last fire a gun?)

Obama Strikes Back: "She is running around talking about how this is an
insult to sportsmen, how she values the second amendment. She's talking
like she's Annie Oakley," Obama said, invoking the famed female
sharpshooter immortalized in the musical "Annie Get Your Gun." Obama
continued, saying "Hillary Clinton is out there like she's on the duck
blind every Sunday. She's packing a six-shooter. Come on, she knows
better. That's some politics being played by Hillary Clinton."

Lethal Disconnect at Virginia Tech: I'm starting to wonder: What exactly
are they teaching students at Virginia Tech? This question came to me as
I was reading about a protest planned on campus for April 16, the
one-year anniversary of the massacre by a crazed gunman of 32 people.
What is the protest about? It is to demand stricter gun control...But
here's where I grow perplexed about this particular protest. The
massacre at Virginia Tech last year occurred on a campus that already
maintained a strict ban on guns. In fact, it was part of a state
university system that had only recently banned all guns on campuses -
even for those with carry permits...

Buying Your First Handgun: Okay, so something has finally tipped the
scales of your judgment in favor of acquiring your first handgun. Maybe
you know someone who was just victimized by a criminal. Maybe you have a
new family and feel the urge to make yourself ready to protect them.
Whatever the reason, you have decided to buy a handgun. Here's how to do
it... (While this is shared mostly for general interest, one of the
longest-standing members of the mailing list only acquired a handgun
about a year ago. I believe that there's lots of room to debate the
recommendations included in this article.)

Explaining Charlton Heston in Britain: ...Whatever his motives, whatever
underpinned his passion for guns, Charlton Heston, in demanding equal
treatment for blacks in the 1950s and later calling for everyone to have
the right to bear arms, was a better representative of the spirit of
American equality than any of those gun control campaigners who turned
him into their favourite redneck whipping boy. You don't have to be a
friend of the NRA or a supporter of the senseless shootings in America's
poorer communities to oppose gun control. You just have to have some
healthy trust in the American people and some healthy distrust of the
American state - both qualities that liberals in America and Europe seem
to lack today.
