Obama, Clinton Strike Phony Poses: Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary
Clinton are in a tight race, not to see which one earns their party's
nomination for president, but evidently to see which one is the bigger
liar and how fast they can run from the tales they spin. Nowhere is this
more obvious and transparent than in the candidates' positions on gun
control and the Second Amendment. On this subject, both Obama and
Clinton would do well to remember the words of that great president,
Abraham Lincoln, who cautioned, "You can fool some of the people all of
the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all
of the people all of the time."

McCain Has "Work to Do" With NRA Voters: If Sen. John McCain expects the
support of gun owners in this year's presidential race, the Arizona
Republican must make an effort to overcome some decisions the National
Rifle Association (NRA) has found troubling...Specifically, McCain
played a leading role in crafting the campaign finance reform law that
bears his name and that also enraged many lobbying groups. The NRA was
one of the most outspoken...The Arizona senator also ran afoul of the
group when he pushed for tighter restrictions on buying guns at gun shows...

CCRKBA Praises Florida Legislature: The Citizens Committee for the Right
to Keep and Bear Arms praised the Florida Legislature today for passing
a measure that expands and protects the right of Sunshine State gun
owners to have firearms locked in their cars while they are working. The
so-called "take-your-guns-to-work" measure prohibits business owners
from banning firearms that are kept locked in cars by their employees
when those vehicles are parked on company property...The legislation now
goes to Gov. Charlie Crist. Gottlieb encouraged Florida gun owners to
contact the governor's office and urge him to sign the measure into law.

Governor Says He Will Sign Bill: Nearly all workers, except teachers and
those who make fireworks, would be able to bring their guns to work and
leave them locked up in their vehicles under a bill Gov. Charlie Crist
says he'll sign. The Senate gave final approval to the bill on
Wednesday. Under the measure, employees would be required to have
concealed weapons licenses to bring the guns to the workplace. But those
records are secret under state law and employers would have no way of
verifying the permits.

Illinois House Rejects One-Gun-a-Month Bill: The Illinois House shot
down an attempt to limit handgun purchases Wednesday. The measure,
designed to address gun violence in Chicago, fell seven votes short of
the 60 votes needed for passage after opponents argued that handgun
ownership already is banned in Illinois' largest city. The proposal,
which was supported by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, would limit handgun
sales and purchases to one person per month. It is aimed at preventing
traffickers from buying guns in bulk to resell to criminals.

California Supremes Say "No" to San Francisco Handgun Ban: The state
Supreme Court dealt a final blow Wednesday to San Francisco's
voter-approved ban on handguns, rejecting the city's appeal of a
lower-court ruling that sharply limited the ability of localities to
regulate firearms. The court's unanimous order was a victory for the
National Rifle Association, which sued on behalf of gun owners,
advocates and dealers a day after the measure passed with 58 percent of
the vote in November 2005. The initiative has never taken effect. The
ordinance, Proposition H, would have forbidden San Francisco residents
to possess handguns, exempting only law enforcement officers and others
who needed guns for professional purposes. It would have also prohibited
the manufacture, sale or distribution of any type of firearms or
ammunition in San Francisco.

Colorado Students to Stage Empty-Holster Protest: University of Colorado
students, during a week-long demonstration, will carry empty holsters
and advocate for the right of licensed individuals to carry concealed
firearms on the campus. The "peaceful protest," from April 21-25, will
be staged at colleges across the country. Organizers say the empty
holsters are meant to symbolize that students and employees at CU are
defenseless on campus...It is illegal for people to bring firearms,
explosives or other weapons onto the CU campus, according to a CU Board
of Regent rule. Only peace officers, and people who have permission from
the CU Police Department, are allowed to be armed. (This is a matter of
a board rule at the University of Colorado, not state law.)

North Carolina School Ignores State Law: For Robert Lumley, the decision
to bar his East Wake High School club marksmanship team from a statewide
shooting tournament was as arresting as a shotgun blast. Less than a day
before the March 15 district round of the decades-old N.C. Wildlife
Resources Commission competition, one of East Wake's principals, with
the support of the area superintendent who oversees that school, stopped
the team from participating...That call pits school policy against state
law that allows firearms education at schools. The decision also runs
counter to the efforts of wildlife agencies, hunting organizations and
gun groups to recruit youths to replenish the dwindling number of
hunters. It also underscores the tension between the fear of school
massacres and the traditions of rural Wake, where hunting is still common.

Clayton Cramer Interview: As announced earlier, historian, software
engineer and Second Amendment activist Clayton Cramer is running for
Idaho State Senate (District 22). The author of numerous books and
publications, Mr. Cramer played an instrumental role in proving that
"Arming America" by Michael Bellesiles was based on fraudulent research,
resulting in revocation of the Bancroft Prize and Bellesiles'
resignation from Emory University. Cramer's work has been cited in
RKBA-related legal cases, such as Emerson, and he recently devoted his
knowledge and research skills to the current Heller case, partnering with
attorneys David T. Hardy and Hamline University's Joseph E. Olson on the
brief filed by Academics for the Second Amendment...

Arizona Volunteers Clean Up Shooting Areas: Thousands of shotgun
shells, rifle casings and pieces of refuse were scooped up out of nature
and into bright green trash bags Saturday. The Tucson Rod and Gun Club,
along with the Arizona Game and Fish Department and numerous other
organizations, went out near Milepost Six of Redington Road to help
clean up shooting areas trashed by people over the last year. This is
the second year in a row that many of the groups have gone out to
Redington to clean up the sites, which are littered with gun-related
trash and with targets people take out to shoot.
