On The Anniversary Of The Bill Of Rights: Patriot Post's Mark Alexander
shares some historical insights on the Bill of Rights, including, "The
judiciary and legislatures have undermined the strength of the Second
Amendment, a right of which James Madison's appointee, Justice Joseph
Story, referred to as '...the palladium of the liberties of a republic;
since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and
arbitrary power of rulers...'" (The fifth page also includes some
observations about gun-free zones.)

Oops, Wrong House, Utah Version: A homeowner killed a suspect who broke
into his home. Two men and a woman attempted the robbery at 3575 South
and 4400 West in West Valley City late Thursday night. Two of the
suspects got away but the homeowner managed to save his family from
harm...He said it started with a simple knock on the door. "I opened the
door and there was a girl standing there," he said. "They used a girl at
the door while they hid and as soon as I opened up the door, they came
rushing in."

Oops, Wrong House, Texas Version: Three times this week, a gunman
knocked on the door of a Tarrant County home ready to shoot whoever
answered. But the tables were turned about 4 a.m. Thursday, when a
homeowner in the 1400 block of East Butler Street disarmed the man at
his front door and shot the would-be attacker, critically wounding him.
The homeowner was not injured. The shooting was part of an ongoing
dispute, police say...Despite the similarities of the three incidents
this week, police said that they are not related and cautioned people
not to become overly concerned about such confrontations.

Rule Five Reminder: Authorities are trying to determine whether a
2-year-old girl caused the shooting death of a man. Curtis Gabriel
Collins, 22, died after being shot in the head at a home around 8:30
p.m. Tuesday, police said. Witnesses told police Collins was sitting on
a sofa when the child grabbed at a gun on a table in the room, causing
the gun to fire. (Rule Five: Maintain control of your firearm.)

End-Of-Year Report From GOA: When people look back on 2007, they may
remember the several, notable shootings that took place: the massacre at
Virginia Tech in April, the slayings at the Nebraska and Utah malls, and
the most recent killings in Colorado - a shooting that could have
eclipsed all of the previous ones if one courageous lady, Jeanne Assam,
had not been armed with a gun. Gun Owners of America has been there each
step of the way, sometimes serving as the only national gun group which
has regularly appeared on national television, arguing for the right to
keep and bear arms...

NRA's Outrage Of The Week: This week's outrage comes courtesy of MSNBC's
"Morning Joe" show co-host Mika Brzezinski, who apparently has a very
hard time laying aside her anti-gun sentiments, even when confronted
with the truthWhen discussing the murderous rampage, Brzezinski
responded to host Joe Scarborough's assertion that "One person with a
gun can make a big difference," by blurting, "Oh gosh, no!  No, no, no.
No, no, no, no, no."  Scarborough then reiterated his assertion, "One
person with a gun in the right place can make a big difference."  At
this point, Brzezinski had clearly had enough of the truth and, putting
an exclamation point on her unabashed anti-gun sentiments, said, "You
know, that is the most inane statement I have ever heard."

NRA's Hypocrisy Of The Week: During an election year, it's common to see
political contenders pulling out all of the rhetorical stops in an
attempt to distinguish themselves as the "candidate of choice" for their
constituency.  Unfortunately, they often test the limits of credulity in
the process. Such is the case for Hillary Clinton, who, in her zeal to
discredit Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) on the gun issue for her own
presumed political gain, has apparently either abandoned her long-held
anti-gun position, or has conveniently developed a case of political
amnesia...
