CNN Distorts Patrol-Rifle Issue: The war on the streets is escalating.
As gangs and other criminals pack more firepower, police departments say
they find themselves in an arms race... Cops are being trained on
semiautomatic weapons, which fire a single shot at a time and are more
accurate. Some semiautomatic weapons can fire with pinpoint accuracy
from as far as 100 yards away. The magazines used by law enforcement
typically carry 20 or 30 rounds, adding to the ability to better respond
under fire. Designed to shoot from the hip, fully automatic assault
rifles such as the AK-47 can spray at a rate of up to 600 rounds a minute...

Deceit In Kentucky: Over the weekend, they held a big gun show at
Somerset. Another one's scheduled for Nov. 17-18 at Cave City, and Nov.
23-25 at the Lexington Center. Then there's the Ashland show at El Hasa
Temple, Dec. 1-2; another in Louisville at the Kentucky Fair &
Exposition Center, Dec. 8-9; still another at Somerset, Dec. 15-16, and
finally, another in Louisville, Dec. 28-30. You get the picture. Gun
shows are very big business, here in Kentucky and across the United
States. I just wonder how many illegal aliens and would-be terrorists
show up to shop...

Maryland Senate May Override Gun-Bill Veto: The Maryland Senate is
poised tomorrow to vote for the first time to override a veto by Gov.
Martin O'Malley (D). During the last legislative session, lawmakers in
both houses unanimously passed a bill that would allow law enforcement
agencies to dispose of agency-owned guns by selling them to a
manufacturer. Under current law, an agency may dispose of guns only by
destroying them or selling them either to another law enforcement agency
or an active or retired officer. (That's pretty paranoid, not letting
used guns go back to a licensed manufacturer.)

Gun-Owning Ohio Republicans Seek To Take Back Party: Republican gun
owners have spent the better part of two decades frustrated by a party
that has talked pro-gun while campaigning, but time and again acted
anti-gun once in office. Until the veto override of Republican Governor
Bob Taft on HB347 last year, Republicans have done almost nothing for
law abiding gun owners since taking control of the state legislature,
other than passing a poison-pill laden concealed carry bill. That veto
override followed an election where the Republicans lost seats in the
Ohio House and four of five statewide positions, including the
Governor's office to pro-gun Ted Strickland (D). Many Republicans are
upset with their party and want to return it to the values they hold
dear, and they are having success.

Women On Target: Some disapproved of guns, some feared them and others
had owned a gun for years without ever learning how to use it. Whatever
their relationship had been with guns before that day, the 15 women who
showed up for gun training at the Lake Havasu Sportsman's Club Saturday
had a single goal: to stare through the sights of a firearm and pull the
trigger and to do it safely and sanely. (Too bad that the instructor
agreed to pose without eye and hearing protection.)

Oops, Wrong Pair: Two holders of concealed-weapons permits surprised
armed thugs who approached them in west Orlando this week. Both men
opened fire rather than surrender their wallets. The robbers beat it...
"What time is it?" one of the strangers asked. Soto looked down at his
watch and said, "It is 6:10." Raising his head, Soto heard the stranger
say, "Hey, run them," as the man drew a black snub-nose revolver from
the pouch in his sweat shirt. (If you really feel compelled to give
someone the time, bring your watch up to eye level, don't look down -
there's a reason that those people ask for the time. If, like me, you
don't wear a wristwatch, say you don't know the time.)

Brady Logic Applied To First Amendment: Did you know that extreme
organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the
Associated Press constantly abuse their privileges? For decades, their
corrupt lobbying has attacked common-sense legislation they don't like,
such as the banning of modern high-capacity pens that hold far more ink
than quill pens did in the 1700s. Yet, the danger runs even deeper...
