Supremes Will Accept Or Reject Heller Case Soon: In the coming weeks
District officials will find out whether a Court of Appeals decision
that found the city's gun laws unconstitutional will stand or whether
the U.S. Supreme Court will take up Mayor Adrian Fenty's appeal.
According to SCOTUSBlog, the justices of the Supreme Court will debate
whether or not to take the case on November 9. Should they choose to,
the two sides would argue before the court in February or March;
otherwise, by mid-November city officials would be faced with the
unenviable task of re-writing the District's restrictive gun laws to
square with the decision handed down by the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the District Circuit in March. That decision found that the city's ban
on handguns was unconstitutional.

Related Article: ...The conventional reason that the Supreme Court often
relies upon in agreeing to hear a dispute, including a constitutional
controversy, is present in the Heller case: the federal appeals courts
are split on what the Second Amendment means. Moreover, in an unusual
twist, the District of Columbia's own highest court, the local Court of
Appeals, disagrees with the D.C. Circuit on the question, so the
conflict is vivid in Washington...

Tennessee CCW Stats Analyzed: ...Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, and
Memphis all show a striking pattern of a low permit rate within the city
limits and much higher permit rates in the suburbs around them. The
permit rates in the suburban areas were also generally higher than those
in rural areas...If permit-holders are anything like the people who live
around them, they probably tend to be white, and
middle-to-upper-middle-class. They would also generally tend to own
their own homes, where they'd live with their families...

Pennsylvania Students Learn Firearm Safety: ...Gun safety is a lifelong
learning experience for children in the Yough School District. The
district starts with the basics, but by the time many of the kids
graduate from high school, they've spent quite a bit of time on the gun
range...

And Eddie Eagle Helps Out: Eddie flew into the Yough School District
Thursday to reinforce a message about gun safety that teachers have been
telling the students this year. "Tell Eddie what we learned," Paul
Yackovich said to the kindergarteners. "Stop. Don't Touch. Leave the
area. Tell an adult," they screamed in unison.

Microsoft Supports Anti-Hunting Organization: Microsoft is dodging
sportsmen's outcries over the corporation's donation to the largest
anti-hunting organization in the United States. It is routing
sportsmen's protests to an e-mail inbox where they can be deleted with
the click of a mouse. The software giant is refusing to connect
sportsmen who object to the company's $100,000 donation to the Humane
Society of the United States via telephone to a live representative.
Instead, receptionists will only give hunters' rights advocates an
e-mail address for a customer service agent.

Bill Would Require Taping Of BATFE Gun Tests: ...The gang at BATFE -
which was somewhat under control during the administration of Attorney
General John Ashcroft - ramped up their assault on gun owners while
Attorney General Alfredo Gonzalez was in office. The abuse committed by
these agents increased to levels not seen since the oppressive days of
the Jimmy Carter presidency... (I think that JPFO may deserve some
credit in this struggle too.)
