From GOA: It turns out that Washington might soon be giving an arm of
the United Nations jurisdiction over the import, export, and oceanic
transport of GUNS and AMMUNITION. You would think that even Washington
politicians would not be so stupid as to give people like Iran's Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, Burma's despotic military junta, the Sudan's genocidal
strongmen, or Cuba's Fidel Castro the right to interfere with our Second
Amendment rights on American soil, right? Well, what makes sense to the
common person isn't always the reality in Washington. The Senate Foreign
Relations committee will soon be debating the ratification of a treaty
that bears the appropriate acronym of LOST (Law of the Sea Treaty). LOST
would put the ocean's resources in the hands of the UN's International
Seabed Authority - and yes, that spells trouble for our Second Amendment
rights.

NSSF Comments On Indiana Lawsuit Ruling: ... Today's decision is
extremely disappointing because the court failed to properly apply a
federal law as Congress intended. "Gary's frivolous lawsuit is the
poster child for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act," said
Lawrence G. Keane, senior vice president and general counsel of the
National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association of the
firearms industry. "Gary's lawsuit seeks to blame manufacturers for the
actions of criminals who misuse firearms. It is like blaming car makers
for drunk driving accidents. Congress understood that lawsuits like
Gary's defy logic and common sense. During Congressional debate, the
city of Gary's case was cited as an example of precisely the sort of
frivolous lawsuit that the bill was intended to stop."

Empty-Holster Week Reviewed: ...The Empty Holster protest showed: i) the
person you see wearing the holster is a fellow student, law-abiding, and
not an aggressor, with or without a waepon of any kind; ii) students
probably around often enough in large enough numbers on campus to stop a
shooter, a useful presence; iii) that person has satisfied state
requirements, and; iv) that person has a civil right to be armed
wherever he/she goes, and no one else really has anything to say about
it, least of all vexing organizations seeking to dismantle a civil right...

Concealed-Carry Law Necessary For Wisconsin Safety: Owning a gun is a
right, whether for sport, collection, recreation or protection. It was
important enough, in the founding of this country, to guarantee the
right to bear arms, which people can find in the Second Amendment to the
Constitution. Conceal and carry provisions allow people to carry
firearms in a concealed manner in a public place. Opponents try to make
it more controversial than it has to be, but this is a worthwhile right...

Happiness Is A Warm Gun Regulation: Recently, Wisconsin legislators
finally reached a compromise and voted for the new state budget, ending
a four-month deadlock. Even though this breakthrough is highly
significant, we mustn't forget the Legislature's failure to reach a
compromise on some comparably less significant issues, one of which has
appeared time and again on the Legislature's agenda: concealed carry gun
laws.

Florida Criminals Turn To Cops For Guns: Criminals are going after cops
- for their guns. In the past year, gang members, thieves and drug
dealers in Palm Beach County have broken into at least six police cars
and stolen handguns and shotguns, officials say...Realizing they, too,
can be victims, the Sheriff's Office and other agencies are fighting
back by adding burglar alarms to marked and unmarked cruisers,
installing extra gun locks in cars and enforcing rules that bar off-duty
storage of handguns, shotguns and assault rifles in cars.

NYC Councilman Seeks Firearm Permit: A City Council member who
represents parts of Staten Island, Vincent Ignizio, says he is hoping to
obtain a gun permit from the city - a process that can take up to six
months. Mr. Ignizio, a Republican, said he wants to buy a rifle or a
handgun for protection in his home. When he was growing up on Staten
Island his father owned a gun for protection and he said he always knew
he would do the same when he had a family. His first child, a girl, was
born earlier this month.

OSHA And Firearms?: You want to talk about a case of judicial activism?
A judge in Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently ruled that a state law that allows
employees to keep their legally owned guns locked in their car while
they're at work violates federal law...If a parking lot is considered
part of the workplace, and OSHA dictates that employers minimize
workplace risks, then shouldn't these employers be required to ban cars
from their parking lots?  After all, in 2004 there were 42,000 people
killed in car crashes in this country.  How on earth could these
employers let these vehicles onto their property without any regard for
the safety of their workers?

Former Lobbyist Attacks NRA In Book: America's most powerful political
lobby, the National Rifle Association, is having a torrid time: nobody
wants to fight with it and so far gun control is not an issue in the
2008 presidential election campaign. Even the bloody toll of the
Virginia Tech shootings - which left 33 students dead and 29 injured, -
was not enough to mobilise public opinion into seeking changes to the
country's gun laws. Politicians are so afraid of the power of the NRA to
destroy them that few dare call for serious controls on the sale of
handguns and assault weapons. All this, says Richard Feldman, a former
NRA insider and gun lobbyist, is bad news for an organisation that likes
nothing better than a fight. Confrontation enables the NRA to engage in
"financial bloodsucking" of its members and to make "deceitful appeals"
for cash.
