From GOA: It's either an enormous bald-faced lie, or it's ignorance at
its worst. But then again, whether it's deception or just plain
ignorance... either scenario is found quite commonly on Capitol Hill.
Some senate offices are telling people the Leahy-Schumer bill is only a
bill about "school safety" and not a bill about disarming veterans.
"This is not a Veterans Disarmament Act," some offices have told GOA
staff. "The bill doesn't say anything about veterans." And one
particular office - that of Republican Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah - is
selectively quoting provisions in the bill to justify his support for
the Veterans Disarmament Act...

Texas Vehicle-Carry Law: "I just feel safer with it in the car," said
Gail Lewis, who is getting a permit to carry a concealed gun. But thanks
to a change in state law, she doesn't need a permit to carry a gun in
her car...In the past, a person without a gun license had to be
traveling across county lines to drive with a concealed weapon. Now, any
law-abiding citizen can drive while armed... "Under the old law, maybe
we could catch people before they broke the law with that gun," said
Assistant District Attorney John Grau. "With the current law, we have to
let them go."

Empty-Holster Week Concludes: Students from more than 110 colleges,
including Gonzaga, wore empty gun holsters from Oct. 22 to 26 in protest
of the prohibition of firearms on campus. In light of such events as the
Virginia Tech shooting, some students think concealed handgun license
holders should be allowed to carry weapons on campus in the name of
self-defense. "Virginia Tech is proof that a gun-free zone isn't
necessarily safe," sophomore Tyler Spilker said. "If a person is intent
on having a gun on campus, he or she will. Changing the policy would
give people a chance to protect themselves."

Oops, Wrong House: For the second time in just one week a shooting is
ruled justified in connection with an attempted burglary.  This time it
happened in Lawton's (OK) Old Town North Addition in the 500 block of
Bell.  The homeowner says he was asleep in the middle of the afternoon
when he heard someone trying to break in.  He says his first reaction
was to grab his gun to stop the would be burglar in his tracks...He
fired two shots - both misses.  Miguez says the boy jumped the fence and
took off running down the street until police caught him a few blocks
away.  The District Attorney's Office says Miguez's actions were
justified under several laws - including the "Make My Day", and "Stand
Your Ground" laws.
